Thanksgiving 2004
This week we celebrate the day which has been set aside to remember and express our thanks for the many blessings we have received throughout the year, and as always I have a lot to be thankful to God for.
Above all, I thank God for the gift of eternal life brought to earth through the sacrifice of His only son Jesus Christ on the cross and the shedding of His blood which covers our many sins.
I thank God for every breath I breathe, for every sight my eyes behold, for every sound, every smell, each step I take, every drink of pure cool water.
I thank God for every note of music I write or play or sing.
I thank God for my wife and son, for my grandson, for my faithful employees, for my friends and family.
I thank God that I live in the United States of America, that we have a President who is a believer, for the mountains and rivers,
the plains and prairies which make up this wonderful nation we call home.
I thank God for feeling the rain on my face and for being able to watch the snow fall in the La Plata Canyon.
I thank God for the chance to hold a baby, to hug a loved one and for seeing a deer jump one of my fences and seeing a flock of geese land on the water.
I’m thankful for the sound of a whippoorwill on a summer night and sight of the red sun dropping below the horizon.
I’m thankful for the health of my family and the steadfast love of my wife Hazel.
I’m thankful that we have young men and women who are willing to give up some of the finest years of their lives to defend and protect this nation.
I’m thankful for the millions of miles I have traveled in safety and the beauty of a desert sunrise.
I’m thankful for freedom and opportunity and the right to express our opinions without fear.
I’m thankful for this beautiful place we call Twin Pines Ranch, which has been our family home for more than twenty-five years.
I thank God for the bounty of our table, the warmth of our fire,
the love that lives in this house and the turning of the leaves on the hardwood trees.
I’m thankful to have my son near and for the chance to spoil our grandson.
I’m thankful for the big silver full moon that hangs over my valley and reflects in the big pond at the bottom of the hill. I’m thankful for the nicker of a colt and for watching the young calves frolic. I’m thankful for riding a gentle, honest horse across the beautiful rolling hills of Tennessee.
God is indeed good.
I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving and may you spend it with friends and loved ones and when you say the blessing at Thanksgiving dinner, I ask you all to join me in a prayer that the sons and daughters of America who are in the military will be joining us next year.
Pray for our troops.
What do you think?
God Bless America
