First Ladies of Southern Rock - Soapbox Jr.

My Mom, Hazel Daniels has been a widow for six years now, and like me, she misses Dad every single day of her life. As sad as it was losing Dad, they still had 56 years together.

Contrast that with Ronnie Van Zant’s widow, Judy. Judy became a widow in 1977, almost 50 years ago.

Both ladies lost their husbands suddenly, but under drastically different circumstances. On October 20, 1977, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s plane was on its way to Louisiana and crashed in a swamp near Gillsburg, MS. Dad was taken by a hemorrhagic stroke on July 6, 2020 two days before Mom’s birthday.

Mom was in her late 70s when Dad left us, Judy was just 26 when Ronnie died.

These two ladies have been instrumental in their husband’s careers with their love and support, and both have done what they can to ensure their legacies extend for future generations.

The last week of August, Judy and Mom got to see each other for the first time in what was no doubt many many years.

Judy was meeting with some associates of ours regarding a long-gestating project that will involve both the history of the CDB and Lynyrd Skynyrd, among others

The project is still under wraps for now, but with Judy’s involvement, we’re one step closer to this becoming a reality.

We’ve been a part of this project for over three years now, and things are finally starting to click.

Mom and Judy are part of a tragically growing club of Southern Rock widows, but their partnership will extend the reach of the greats of Southern Rock music for many generations to come.

This is going to blow people’s socks off, and I can’t wait for what comes next.

What do you think?

Let’s all make the day count!

Pray for our troops, our police, the Peace of Jerusalem and our nation.
