Dominos

To say these last few weeks have been trying, nerve-wracking, confusing and uncertain is the grossest of understatements.

Even watching the president’s daily coronavirus briefings did little to glean enough information to form any solid opinions, the negative and abrasive questions of a totally biased media, the sometimes stilted science-speak of some of the officials and guests left you wondering what they actually said.

The shutting down of America, the uncertainty of when the bans would be lifted and what the workplace would look like when they finally were, the problems of social distancing, wearing masks, observing rigid hygienic practices, how public transportation could be made safe and how close contact could possibly be avoided in a working atmosphere which always required proximity of workers.

All new problems we’ve never faced before and the very thought of how complex adopting these procedures is going to be is mind-boggling.

Some say we never should have closed America, and if China had acted like responsible citizens of planet earth and informed the world of the existence, rabid contagion and potential global pandemic potential of COVID-19, we could have possibly have made moves that could have circumvented it.

But China showed no compassion and no concern for the rest of humankind, allowing infected Chinese citizens to fly all over the world and introduce the disease to an unsuspecting global population, even while banning the people of Wuhan, the epicenter of the plague, from domestic travel.

On top of that, they used the time before disclosure to buy up and hoard essential medical equipment and protective gear, causing severe shortages and exorbitant prices, when - at last - they did release the information that the world was facing a disease with no cure.

The way I see it, there was no way to avoid closing down America. We knew so little about what we were facing and model makers were putting the fatality rates in the millions, just in America, and something had to be done immediately, at least until we knew what we were dealing with.

But now it’s a different story, and it’s time to, in an orderly, cautious way, adopting the safety measures we need, and the lessons we have learned, begin the process of putting our people back to work.

There will be mistakes made, there will be deaths, which an agenda-driven media and hack politicians will try to make political hay from.

There are governors who fancy themselves kings and queens who want to continue the shutdown and enforce ridiculous executive orders, that for all practical purposes, treat the citizens of their states as if they were in prison, forbidding them to even venture outside for a breath of air, using drones and other spy tools to keep tabs.

What are they going to tell their prisoners when the store shelves are totally empty, there is no gasoline, the drug stores are out of medicine and can’t fill prescriptions, because a few more weeks of an idle workforce and the supply lines, including the essentials of life, will begin to dry up.

The system that sustains our economy and very lives is interconnected, codependent and a few segments cannot long exist without the others.

An old saying,

“For want of a nail, a shoe was lost, for want of a shoe, a horse was lost, for want of a horse, a rider was lost, for want of a rider, a message was lost, for want of a message, a war was lost – all for the want of a nail.”

What do you think?

Pray for our troops our police and the peace of Jerusalem.

God Bless America

Trump Wins Again
Amen, Amen & Amen Charlie you have another well thought out article. I probably will always disagree on shutting down America, but there is no need in crying over spilled milk. It is time to get er done, no more Pelosi stimulus packages, they are stimulating something, but not the economy. We need brick and mortar money , building infrastructure and main street America with Made in the USA businesses popping up mushrooms. We need family run businesses, I can remember when our local town had a clothes pin factory, one that made hay hooks, four small packing houses, (none today), a trailer manufacture and more mom & pop shops than you could count. I truly believe that President Trumps vision will come to pass because he has people like Barr cleaning up the scum from past administrations. Speaking of scum what is slow Joe up to today?......nuff said Keep the Faith God Bless Plowboy

Ground Zero
We are now at ground zero. And even that hay those hacks are making smells rotten. I'm with you, it was a necessity but even necessities have a season. This one is expiring. Who would have thought some people care more about politics and elections than the country or the people? All lessons learned. ~ NIMOC

COVID crazy talk
As Charlie correctly states "The way I see it, there was no way to avoid closing down America. We knew so little about what we were facing and model makers were putting the fatality rates in the millions, just in America, and something had to be done immediately, at least until we knew what we were dealing with." I am happy that Charlie realizes that COVID was not a hoax put on the American people as stated by some loons who claim that COVID was a fabricated emergency or a plot by Fauci, Bill Gates, the media, the democrats, etc. Even toddler trump is bragging about his response keeping the death toll down to the currently projected 130,000 - as he has stated that without his magnificent intervention, the death toll would have been in the millions. This is trump's analysis. Not the media. Charlie also states "But now itโ€™s a different story, and itโ€™s time to, in an orderly, cautious way, adopting the safety measures we need, and the lessons we have learned, begin the process of putting our people back to work." Of course this is true. No one is stating that we should shut down indefinitely. But it needs to be done in a cautious manner. It was president toddler trump that stated that governors should use their judgement based on local data. In addition, trump gave guidelines for reopening. This was followed by protestors that pulled off their masks and huddled close together. That is just stupid. (as they say - stupid is as stupid does). Then, in response to governors following trumps guidelines - trump tweets "liberate" with a reference to the second amendment. Obviously this is just a dog whistle to rabble rouse the liberators the are protesting. Even though the governors are following toddler trumps recommendations and trump gave the governors the responsibility. Regarding the protestors, I have no issue with any peaceful protest. But ripping your mask off while you huddle in close with others at a protest rally is just stupid. It would more acceptable if they were the only ones getting hurt by their stupidity. But then when they get sick, they put health care workers at risk as we take care of them anyway. That of course is our duty. I hope Charlie takes some responsibility and perhaps encourages his followers to wash hands, wear masks, social distance - especially if they are in a high risk area like New York, New Jersey, N Orleans, Boston etc. I am happy that he is not doing concerts thus putting his fans at risk. This Covid stuff is serious. It is not the flu folks. Wake up.

Trump was willing to pass the "Pelosi stimulus package" that you've been criticizing. The republicans and democrats squabbled over the details, but it was a bipartisan effort. -- Tru Cola

Corona virus
Trumps handling of the pandemic is pretty dang good so far given what weโ€™ve been told the facts are.

"Trumps handling of the pandemic is pretty dang good so far given what weโ€™ve been told the facts are." I have my doubts about that. However, there IS an advantage to Trump in the White House. Using the Defense Production Act to have more COVID-19 tests produced would be one more advantage (C'mon, Donny, why won't you do it?) -- Tru Cola

I COMPLETELY agree with THIS. Weโ€™ll need to open up some things before others. For example, weโ€™ll be ready for construction projects before dining in, and dining in before carnivals. We may or may not soon be ready for stadium events, but itโ€™ll be a LONG time before weโ€™re ready to fill every seat. -- Tru Cola

Restaurants
Itโ€™s too soon to dine in. So letโ€™s order carry-out and delivery for the mom-and-pop restaurants as much as possible. Pray for these such restaurants and their employees, especially the servers and bussers and greeters, whoโ€™s job depends on people dining in. -- Tru Cola

Silver Lining
Before this crisis, airplanes were notorious for people being packed in like sardines. I hope flights from now on are much roomier for the sake of both preventing disease AND comfort. -- Tru Cola

What Happened in Wisconsin
Their emergency orders were ruled unconstitutional under their state constitution. Some of the stateโ€™s bars and restaurants opened up without social distancing. As emergency orders are gradually relaxed, donโ€™t be surprised if the general public boycotts these businesses, seeing them as having moved too fast and carelessly. -- Tru Cola
