What You Don’t Know Can Hurt You

I remember as a child seeing the newsreels at the movie houses about the Second World War and the inhumanity and cruelty of Hitler and his Nazis.

I remember the huge holes full of the naked, skeletal bodies of Jews - men, women and children - who had been murdered and were being buried in mass graves because the furnaces where they usually burned the bodies couldn’t keep up with the amount of prisoners the monsters put to death.

This is an evil the world should never forget, the wanton killing of six million living, breathing human beings. The fact that our school children, when they reach an age they can comprehend it, are not being taught that it happened is a big mistake, not to acquaint them with the evils of fascism, especially since the word has been bandied about by so many people, who don’t have any idea what it means, and the younger generation needs to know the true meaning of the word and its cruel political ramifications.

The same is true of communism, or it’s less offensive choix de nom, socialism, which has taken down every nation who has fallen prey to its siren call, the utopian promises of fairness, level playing fields, free social services, bringing the rich to heel, curbing the unfair employment practices of industry, guaranteed jobs and fair wages for all.

One has only to look as far as Venezuela to see the devastation socialism, or more accurately, the promise of socialism brings. Venezuela should, by all indications, be a rich and prosperous nation, teeming with natural resources and agricultural advantages, but is - at present - totally destitute, currency disastrously devaluated, with little food and no hope.

The result of true socialism is always a totalitarian government, where, no matter how well-intentioned the originators may be, to stay in power means having to promise more and more benefits, and as the central government takes over an ever-increasing share of industry, puts inept bureaucrats in charge, industry starts to fail and soon, factories close, workers go on the dole, which increases to impossible levels and it takes strongarm tactics so prevent outright anarchy.

And so, the nation turns into just another failed socialist state, under the thumb of some dictator who spends on guns instead of butter and the conundrum goes on until perpetual civil war ensues and they go from one ambitious despot after the other.

It has happened over and over, the pattern never changes, nor can it, because the cornerstone of socialism is a monolithic central government whose philosophy is, in the words of Karl Marx, “From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.” In other words, your ambition, work ethic, or creativity mean nothing, and your rewards are the same as some lazy bum who puts nothing into his job and never had an original thought in his life.

Socialist nations, by nature, become anti-religious, as the state’s ultimate goal is to become the only answer to all problems, the central clearinghouse for all information, all policy, in essence, replacing God as the judge of what is right or wrong.

Would it have been a fallacy for America to attempt to keep the fact that we once had legal slavery in this country a secret, that men, women and children were kidnapped from their native Africa and pressed into forced labor, traded like animals, their children separated from their parents and sold like cattle, most of them never seeing their families again?

Should this inhuman practice have been hidden from the succeeding generations, buried under the guilt and shame of such a dark period in our history?

Of course not. It should be forced out into the light of truth, exposed for monstrous practice that it was.

The mistakes and evil undertakings of governments and individuals should be brought to the light of day, exposed to the crucible of truth, so that the generations who follow can see the evil and avoid the same pitfalls.

At the same time, the good that mankind has done should also be brought forth and both should be presented in bare facts so that it will not be burnished nor belittled so that it might be judged by ramifications, not the whims of those who tend to spin history for their own benefit.

And you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.

Nothing less will do.

What do you think?

Pray for our troops, our police and the peace of Jerusalem.

God Bless America

Not Again
Public education, national health care, public transportation, etc. are viewed as socialistic by the far right. Can a country prosper without them? No. Are they best served through private industry? No. A government that opposes religion is far different than one that refuses to impose religion on its citizens. When people are well educated, prosperous, and has a government that allows freedom of belief, things like evangelical Christianity fade. Right now, the kind of ‘socialism’ Charlie opposes thrives in some of the world’s most prosperous economies. We are not in a position to fault them when all our efforts to use capitalism to resolve social issues shows a history of failure. If Venezuela is going to be used as the measure of our success we are doing well but perhaps we could aim just a bit higher?

Great article Mr.Daniels. I hope America doesn't start to fall under the spell of something for nothing. The hard left is really pushing this failed agenda. They elected Obama twice. Didn't learn from one term. Thank you for your insight each day. Many blessings to you and yours. Sincerely, Steve and Diana Orona. Tucson, AZ

Socialism The Next Step To Communism
Amne, Amen & Amen Charlie it is unbelievable that the Holocaust is not being taught in schools today. Those who do not understand or know history are doomed to repeat it, to believe that one race is superior is total insanity. To not understand that socialism is just one more step toward communism is total ignorance or brainwashing. It seems that we have a death wish as a country, electing a Muslim to the presidency, less than 10 years after they took down the world trade center. The fact that Bernie Sanders did as well as he did shows that Christians are asleep all over this nation, just last year he violated Article VI of the U.S. Constitution during a confirmation hearing for Russell Vought, President Trump’s nominee for deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget. "In my view, the statement made by Mr. Vought is indefensible, it is hateful, it is Islamophobic, and it is an insult to over a billion Muslims throughout the world,” nuff said God Bless, the USA,Israel & all whose God is Abraham, Isaac & Jacob, Plowboy

A Better Capitalism
Charlie, I do believe that there are many people in society who are creative, talented, and have an excellent work ethic, yet struggle to get by in life. I'm all in favor of capitalism. But we need a capitalism where people are willing to help each other instead of blaming others of not "picking themselves up by their own bootstraps". -- Tru Cola

“it is unbelievable that the Holocaust is not being taught in schools today“. Where in this country is this not being taught?

Socialism....
Giving UNLIMITED money to the rich IS socialism. You are rich. You will NEVER understand. Remember crumbs falling from master's table.. You guys NEVER look at that. I will die being working poor sharing what little I have. All that I know is that the least shall be first, and the first shall be least! I'd rather have less now than less in eternity.

BY JAMIE SELF AND JOHN MONK [email protected], [email protected] December 15, 2017 03:57 PM Updated December 16, 2017 03:24 PM COLUMBIA, SC South Carolina’s public-school teachers know they must cover the Holocaust in discussions of World War II because the Nazis’ campaign to exterminate 6 million Jews and other minorities is mentioned specifically, by name, in the state’s current social studies standards. However, a proposed 124-page revision to those standards leaves out the word “Holocaust,” raising questions about whether the genocide will remain a required topic to teach in classrooms. Those concerns have been heard, said state schools chief Molly Spearman on Friday, in an effort to assure the public. Under Pennsylvania law only 90% of districts are required to teach it. PUBLIC SCHOOL CODE OF 1949 - HOLOCAUST, GENOCIDE AND HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS INSTRUCTION Act of Jun. 26, 2014, P.L. 776, No. 70 One student not being taught is one to many. nuff said God Bless Plowboy

Do you know what constitutes socialism and what constitutes capitalism?!
“it is unbelievable that the Holocaust is not being taught in schools today“. Where in this country is this not being taught?" I wondered that myself, Dana? But then said statement was made by Plowboy, Charlie's "Amen" corner and equally hyperbolic reactionary! I live in Texas, and I can attest to the fact that a rather powerful "faction" of the Texas GOP -- probably the majority -- are trying to authorize the reprinting of textbooks with wording more receptive to their small worldview. In a nutshell, the term "slave", as it referred in the historical context to African-Americans in the antebellum South is now being replaced with the term "workers -- as if they had a choice. I'm African-American, and I find this pretty deplorable, because slavery was -- IS -- slavery! References to native American suffrage are also being "altered". The biggest doozy is saying the Moses and Solomon inspired American-style democracy! On to the post... Mr. Daniels, do you even KNOW what socialism IS?! The socioeconomic system in the US of A is not entirely even CAPITALISTIC! There are socialist flourishes, like Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare and the U.S. military medical plans, all of which have their flaws, yes, but are socialist in nature. More, capitalism, as people like YOU define it is exclusionary; it's not accessible to everyone fairly, despite the nonsense right-wing dogma that everyone can pull themselves up by the bootstraps. I used to work in biological sciences in a journalistic capacity. Many researchers and scientists that I had to privilege to work in found novel treatments, and in one instance, a CURE, for various illnesses. The thing is, they were often told to shelve or throw out their findings. Why? Because there was no money to be made in curing said illnesses; there has to be this....COMPETITION state, which restricts findings. Sadly, someone has to make money on it instead of helping someone. THIS is your capitalist religion at work! This is the flaw inherently wrong in the supposedly foolproof notion that American-style capitalism trumps all; it doesn't. This would explain why the American lifestyle and that of its citizenry has become so stagnant. We're in a status quo in terms of cultural and scientific advancement, when compared to our more socialistic, but equally developed nation-neighbors. You would do well to learn the differences between Red-scare communism, and socialist economic practices. France, Canada, Switzerland have socialistic economies, but they are still thriving.

What a load of garbage
I lived in South Carolina for 10 years and Texas for 8 and anyone who says they are supressing teaching of the slaughter of Jews in WWII is lying. Plowboy, give me an honest answer.

Socialist Bandwagon
Funny how people accuse Charlie of not knowing what socialism is, yet lots of young people seem to endorse socialism without knowing what it really is. The word has become sanitized for progressives. It seems the target demographic is young people. I always thought it would be good to know what something is before buying it lock stock and barrel. But that's just me I guess.

Socialism
Socialism is not all or none. Most americans want some socialism within some aspects of society such as health care. Cars and most other goods are distributed by capitalism and that is OK. Bill Gates gets to drive a better car than someone poor. If you can't afford a car, you don't get a car. Most are OK with that. However, that does not suffice for health care. Most Americans do not want health care denied to someone that can't afford it. In addition, most americans do not think that if Trumps kids needed insertion of a heart valve - that his kids should get a better heart valve and a poor person should get a cheaper one that is not as good. Once you agree that someone who shows up to the emergency room in need of urgent medical should get it, regardless of ability to pay (and that is the law - an ER cannot deny life saving treatment based on ability to pay), you are a proponent of some amount of socialism. If you agree that Donald Trump or Charlie Daniels should not get better surgery with better equipment because they are rich and middle class people can be treated with cheaper equipment that is not as good. then you are for an aspect of socialism. If you are truly for pure capitalism in all aspects of life including health care, then there is no health care crisis. You can't afford health care or health insurance, then you don't get treated. Problem solved. I don't believe this is what most americans want.

Knowledge...
It is funny to a point... To walk in this life and find certain things along this path.. And the only way that they were found, was by the spirit that is greater than we.. From the political stand point to the common ground level stand point.. All thru out our existence humankind has been greedy, self serving, hypocritical...guess you could say it is part of human nature I suppose... From the beginnings of the biblical view... Human kind has been taking over each other for 1000s of years..from culturally to the power that prestige and money can empower ones self... And with all the secret societies planning and contemplating in their next moves to gain a little more control.. Has gotten way out of hand... You have Catholics that want to destroy all of the masons and protestants.. And then you have the masons that want to end up with 500 million people left to walk this earth... Seems to me that the average common folks are in a rule of awakening...for the most part a lot of folks don't tend to be a part of either or .. We are certainly living in some treacherous times.. And it's funny because all of this has came to me thru visions and dreams... Just like three days prior to all the tornados touchdown in middle Tennessee several years ago... I told a fellow, that tornado ally would move further east that year... And it surely did....sometimes I really don't like saying nothing that comes to me in these visions or dreams.. For the most part all of them have came to pass.... And be careful in what you pray for, for they may come to pass...be ready when and if they do... For you will have to be a spiritual form in a physical body to deal with them.... Just saying.... And always give thanks in Jesus name.... May Gods grace have mercy on all of us thru these times in our life....
