Horse of Different Color The controversy over building an Islamic mosque in the shadow of the World Trade Center rages on with the Muslims claiming they want to build it in that location as a symbol of peace and healing, despite their history of building mosques on the sites of their military triumphs. Note to cherry pickers: you can look this up for yourself, start with the history of the Cordoba Mosque and the al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and go from there. In my humble opinion, if they really wanted to exhibit peace and healing they would not even think about putting a mosque on that site. It is the place where nearly 3000 innocent civilians were slaughtered by others of their faith who claimed to be on a holy mission for Islam. How could Muslims possibly think that America would so soon forget the people jumping to their deaths, the heroic firemen and police who were killed trying to rescue the doomed, the destruction of the magnificent Twin Towers, the day that changed life in America forever? How can they expect America to trust them that all they want to do is build an activity center and harmless place of worship when the murderers who flew the planes into the Trade Towers were followers of the same faith they would be preaching the mosque? It’s a proven fact that many mosques already in the United States preach hatred of America and our way of life. So far, they have been dealing with politicians and the “politically correct enlightened” and meeting little resistance, but politicians would sell them the whole island of Manhattan for a few votes and the politically correct crowd don’t have enough common sense to know that a mosque in the 9/11 area would represent a major victory to the Islamic world. I recently saw some video from television stations in the Middle East, made by Islamic clerics that had been translated into English. The constant theme of these people is rabid hatred of the Jews and the total destruction of Israel. I remember during the second world war seeing film of Adolph Hitler inciting Germans with his rants of hatred, he reminded one of a rabid dog, raging with madness. The level of hatred in these videos was just as rabid and just as full of hate as anything Adolph Hitler ever said. Islam is a closed society insofar as religion is concerned, and I wonder what the imams would say if they received a request to build a Christian church or a Jewish synagogue in Mecca or Medina or next to the Dome of the Rock on Temple Mount in Jerusalem. How many Christians have you heard about being killed or kidnapped in Muslim countries? And if the Muslims really want to do something to promote understanding between them and the Judeo-Christian community, they would allow our missionaries to preach our faith openly and unopposed in nations where Sharia Law is in effect. If this is so open and above board why won’t they disclose where the financing is coming from? Why all the secrecy? I have not heard one feasible argument from a Muslim as to why this mosque has to be built on this very site. I suspect that the reasons go a lot deeper and are a lot darker than simply building a place of worship or a gesture of peace and understanding by Muslims. According to a myth from centuries ago, the Greeks -- who were at war with the Trojans -- could not find a way to breach the walls of Troy. One morning, the Trojans awoke to find the Greek army gone and a giant wooden horse just outside the gates of the city. Assuming it was a gift from the Greeks who had given up and gone away, they pulled the horse through the gates and into the city. Little did they know that the giant horse was full of Greek warriors, and once inside they came out and slaughtered the Trojans in their own city. Since then, the term Trojan Horse has been used to describe the red herring, the slight of hand that gets you to look in one direction while someone achieves their purposes coming from the other.
