Soap Box Archives Nodding Out I wonder what would have happened to a person who would have leaked sensitive military information to the foreign press back during the Second World War. At best, they would have been charged with espionage and tried in front of a military tribunal and at worst they would have faced a firing squad. Every newspaper in the country -including The New York Times- would have excoriated the traitor for endangering the lives of our military and putting the United States of America in jeopardy. Nowadays it happens and everybody -including the people at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue- act as if it’s an every day occurrence, no big deal, and the really maddening thing is the seemingly lackadaisical attitude the federal government seems to have towards ferreting out and punishing this criminal. The difference between America in 1942 and America in 2010 is that Americans back then realized that our nation was in imminent danger from those who wanted to destroy us and our way of life. And now in 2010 this country, for the most part seems to think that we are just playing an international game of gotcha and that our enemies are not really all that capable and dangerous. Our memories are short. We forget how we felt that September morning in 2001 when our world changed forever as our beloved nation entered the world of the international terrorism, a cadre of fanatics for which no act of murderous violence is beyond their conscience. America is sleeping; our interest and anxieties buffeted this way and that by a relentless 24-hour news cycle and an untrustworthy government that is capable of unbelievable stupidity on a daily basis. The same people who want to try Islamic murderers in American courtrooms, want to allow Islam to poke a permanent finger in the eye of any loyal American by allowing them to build, of all things, a Muslim mosque on the hallowed ground where the innocent blood of nearly three thousand of our fellow citizens was wantonly shed by the radical elements of this same faith. Mayor Bloomberg you should hang your head in shame. The current administration has a lax attitude toward anything to do with Islam and it makes one wonder where this president’s real sympathies lie. How can we ever forget that these same radicals are still out there plotting our downfall from the inside and the outside and from the looks of it making a lot of headway? I believe that there will be open guerilla warfare on the streets of America before this is over with. Hang on to your guns, America.
