State Of
The Union
You've got to
hand it to Obama; he is a talented public speaker of almost spellbinding
proportions. You can literally get carried away by his oratory and forget
what he's actually saying.
As I watched Obama's State of the Union address, I couldn't help but
admire his gift of communication, his emphasis on certain words and
phrases, his quick wit and public persona.
But, as usual, the devil is in the details.
Obama tried to walk the middle line for much of his speech sounding
as if he was ready to try some proven, time-tested, conservative methods
to jumpstart our stalled economy. He talked about tax breaks for small
businesses and eliminating the capitol gains taxes for them, things
that make a lot of fiscal sense, but these moves pale in comparison
to his other debt increasing measures he proposed.
When you distill Obama's speech down to its essence it's nothing more
than a continued move to the left, fiscal irresponsibility and massive
government spending.
Obama and this Congress cannot stand to have any money lying around.
To a financially responsible person, any money the banks pay back from
their bail out loans should be applied to the national debt, which will
soon approach fourteen trillion dollars.
The money is owed not to the government but to those who the government
borrowed the money from, but Obama wants to spend it on some jobs program,
and my guess is that in the end it turns out to be just as impotent
as his last efforts.
How long is it going to take the citizens of this nation to realize
that no matter how many jobs the federal government provides, they're
temporary, they run out when the funding runs out and if the government
doesn't put more of your tax money into them they just go away?
The only jobs that last are those that are created by the private sector.
He threw a bone to the left by repeating the old liberal mantra about
allowing gays in the military. If you happen to notice the Joint Chiefs
sat unsmiling as Obama brought this up while Nancy Pelosi nearly jumped
off the podium.
Obama is good at addressing a subject without ever approaching the underlying
problems.
He talked about ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan but never mentioned
the ramifications of what kind of powder kegs we'd leave behind in both
countries, the danger of starting other wars for America to fight by
prematurely pulling out.
He spoke of fighting al-Qaeda but never used the term War on Terror.
He never even mentioned the insanity of Eric Holder trying terrorists
in the heart of New York City, a trial New York neither wants nor can
afford.
All in all, Obama's address showed no change of direction, no new and
innovative fiscal efforts, no increase in the War on Terror, nothing
to make America feel that we're turning the corner or that we'll be
safer from attack or that we have anything to look forward to except
taxes and crushing debt.
It's was just more of the same, smoke and mirrors, slight of hand, semantics
and word games all designed to disguise America's long and painful march
toward socialism and loss of freedom.
And on top of that he still has the same bunch of clowns in his cabinet.
And Obama did something I've never seen a U.S. President do. He intentionally
humiliated the Supreme Court justices in front of both houses of Congress
and the world. It's the Court's job to interpret the Constitution, not
kowtow to the tastes of the President.
Mr. Obama showed poor taste in publicly castigating the Court. It's
the most no-class remark I've ever heard come out of a President's mouth
during a State of the Union address.
Could it be that since Obama has control of the other two branches of
government he wants to control the judicial branch too?
Don't bet against it.
What do you think?
Pray for our troops, and for our country.
God Bless America
