Soap Box Archives Race Farce I don't even remember her name. Just another female politician on television telling the world that America didn't want to see Barack Obama succeed because he is the same color she is, which happens to be black. This is a truly lame excuse to use for people not supporting Obama. The majority of American voters voted for him and gave him control of both houses of Congress, and this woman actually thinks that Americans don't like him. That's bad arithmetic. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have been telling us for decades that the problems facing black Americans are all caused by white Americans, that a black person can't get anywhere close to the upper echelons of power in this country because of the rampant racism. Well I think Obama's election has taken the wind out of those sails, a black man with a Muslim name has been elected to the most important job in the world. So let's just cut the crap about racism. If America was a primarily racist country there is no way in this world Barack Obama would have been elected. It's just too easy to hide behind the race card. All you have to do is make the accusation. It doesn't require explanation or elaboration; just the word is enough and it elicits visions of rampant hate and men in white sheets burning crosses at midnight. I do not deny that there are prejudiced people in America, but it's important to note they come in all colors, because a person's skin is dark it doesn't mean that they are immune from racist attitudes, any more than a white person's skin color automatically makes them a racial bigot. If you read this column very often you know how I feel about Barack Obama's policies but it has absolutely nothing to do with race, and everything to do with the kind of America he is trying to create or destroy, however you want to look at it. I personally have a lot less use and respect for Nancy Pelosi and she's white. I guess that makes me sexist in the eyes of the Democrats. Skin color does not make any person a devil or a saint. Skin is just a thin covering for the person inside it, and that's the part that counts. The philosophy of Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and their ilk is that the black community's problems can only be solved by big government programs, and massive spending of taxpayer's dollars in ways that have proven fruitless for generations. You can give people entitlements and subsidies until the end of time and it is not going to solve the problem of ghettos and poverty and all the other misery that goes along with depending on a government allowance. If Jesse and Al and all the others who are so quick to accuse anybody with a lighter skin of racism really wanted to do something about the plight of their race they'd start a campaign to cut teenaged pregnancy, try to see that the punks who father these children are made to pay for their upbringing until they reach the age of majority, try to persuade parents to make their children finish school and take advantage of college programs, work with the police to get the crack dealers off the corners and in prison where they belong and stop telling people that they can't improve themselves without the government's help. Unfortunately government entitlements only create dependence, not independence. And instead of pointing to President Obama as an example of what can happen for young black people, Jesse Jackson was caught on tape before the election saying that he'd like to castrate him. You would think he would have been bursting with pride. It's time to put the race card away permanently; it's time for members of all races to look at a person for what their skin covers, not what color it is. What do you think? Pray for our troops, and for our country God Bless America Charlie Daniels
