A Few More Rednecks

What this world needs is a few more rednecks
Some people with the nerve to take a stand
What this world needs is a little more respect
For the Lord and the law and the working man

We could use a little peace and satisfaction
Some good people up front to take the lead
A little less talk and a little more action
And a few more rednecks is what we need

My dictionary says that a redneck is a working class person, a politically actionary one from a rural area, and while all of that may be true to a degree, it sounds to me like some intellectual trying to describe people they neither care for nor understand and it doesn't begin to go far enough in the description of a redneck for someone who considers himself to be one.

Rednecks have been misunderstood for far too long and the term has always had a negative connotation to people who don't know any better.

It all comes down to the way you look at it.

For instance let's take NASCAR racing. Rednecks have made up the lion's share of the audience for NASCAR since the days when it was called stock car racing. They've been the faithful, the old boys sitting in the stands with no shirt and a case of beer.

They're the ones who made NASCAR what it is and now that, due to their loyalty NASCAR has become a big business, it is trying to move away from the image, as Hollywood actors and other celebrities have finally caught on.

NASCAR was started in the South on dirt tracks by guys who would go in hock to buy a new carburetor so they could race under the 100-watt bulbs Saturday night.

NASCAR is not Formula 1 racing. It is not run in France or Monaco, and when the glitz and novelty wears off, the glitter crowd will move on to the next fad, leaving the old boys in the stands with no shirt and a case of beer to support it, because that's where the love is.

I have never been able to understand why some human beings think that they are above somebody else just because they were born under better circumstances or because they have a high-powered education

Some of the most mislead people I've ever heard of are overly-educated and their profession is to teach kids to be just as mislead as they are. I'm speaking of course about college professors, and this is not a blanket indictment, there must be at least five or six professors out there who are different.

You see the problem with college professors, as I see it, is that they aren't teaching, they're proselytizing, trying to bring their students around to their way of thinking, which for the most part is anti-religion, anti-moral and blames everything except the Ice Age on America.

Oh and by the way, that's the old Ice Age, should there ever be another one I'm sure they'll find a way to blame it on George W. Bush, Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity.

Are these students really getting an education or simply a heavy dose of liberal politics which ill prepares somebody to enter the real world? Idealism won't get you to first base when you're trying to make a living.

There was a college professor by the name of Ward Churchill at the University of Colorado a while back and he claimed that America brought 9/11 on itself. Now if Mr. Churchill wants to believe that it's his own business but should he be teaching it to his students, what's that got to do with ethnic studies, or whatever it is they're supposed to be learning in his class.

Then there's Bill Ayers who teaches at a college in Chicago. Mr. Ayers and his buddies tried to blow up all kinds of things back in the seventies and would be in jail except for a colossal screw up by the folks prosecuting him.

On top of that he says he's not even sorry for doing it. Is this the kind of man you want teaching your children?

It's a pity Mr. Ayers didn't try to blow up Bubba's hunting camp instead of the Capitol building, with Bubba and a bunch of his redneck buddies in it. Bill Ayers and his would be terrorist punks would have been so full of holes you could have used them for colanders.

And in my opinion that would have been justice.

What do you think?

Pray for our troops, and for our country

God Bless America
