Soap Box Archives Falling apart I can understand liberals and Democrats defending the choices they make for the people they put in office. If they have a different political philosophy from me, that's perfectly fine, that's what America is about. We need the checks and balances of a two party system to keep our nation from turning into a dictatorship. Any truly sane person does not want to see one political party, be it Republican or Democrat totally take over the government as it would mean that our very lives would be taken over and our nation would be molded into whatever concept the party in power happens to have. I know that some people are going to disagree with what I'm going to say. There are some of you who would still defend Obama if New York was occupied by Islamic terrorists and Obama was paying their hotel bills and you'll be blaming George W. Bush for all America's troubles for the next couple of decades, if the nation lasts that long. But to all you people who consider yourselves conservatives and to you liberals who are not so blinded by your ideology as to get offended when somebody dares question your party of choice, I would like to share some very real fears that keep scratching away at the back of my mind. I am really afraid that Obama and the Democrats are going to find a way to lose both wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and that under political pressure from his far left base will prematurely start pulling troops out. He is simply not a wartime president, as wars have to be won in the trenches and not in Ivy League think tanks, and Obama simply doesn't have the mentality nor the stomach for it. Under the old impossible guise of "Peace in the Middle East" Obama will throw Israel under the bus. In the process of doing these things he will strengthen the fanatic Islamic movement around the world as he is perceived as taking sides with the Muslims. And on the domestic front… Barack Obama and the Democrat party have done very little that has anything to do with the good of society and everything to do with political power. The President and Congress only have to study models of Canadian, English and other socialistic health care programs to know that it doesn't improve health care, it actually does the opposite and creates a bureaucratically controlled monolith that has little to do with the practice of medicine. It gives the power of deciding who gets what care, not according to need, but many times according to political pull and family ties. If you doubt that this happens in Canada, the U.K. and other places, get on the net and do a little searching about those who were denied a needed medical procedure for years and were put in line behind some bigwig's family member. Two Questions 1. Why was Obama so insistent on getting this 1100 page monster passed before Congress even had a chance to read it? Why should such a mega-expensive piece of legislation be made into law before the American people had a chance to even know what their great, great grandchildren were going to be paying for. 2. If this health care program is so wonderful, why don't the President, Congress and the rest of the government bureaucracy agree to put their families on it? Answers 1. Barack Obama is not an honest man. He knew that if the American people found out what was in this horrible bill they would be up in arms about it, and that's exactly what happened. The Democrats are willing to stoop to the lowest levels imaginable to maintain power, including suspending the rules, voting at midnight when the cameras aren't around and slipping amendments into a bill that they don't want the America people to know about. And yes, I know, I know the Republicans do it too. This column is in no way a defense of the Republicans. I'm disgusted with many of them too, but they're not in power right now. I said in the start of this article that I can't fault anybody with defending their party but how anybody can defend Nancy Pelosi and Henry Waxman is beyond my understanding. Nancy Pelosi is an inept, plasticized, out of touch hack who is willing to harm anybody who gets in her way. She, in my humble opinion, is without honor and totally unfit to serve as Speaker of the House. She's a spoiled little rich girl who has her fortune and wants to make sure you never get yours. If she's the bellwether of how far the Democrat party has fallen, if she's the best they've got, they're hurting bad. Henry Waxman is a sneaky little ferret who, left to his own devices, would probably operate totally in the dark, without any public scrutiny at all. They are both dangerous to this republic. The cap and trade bill, heralded as the answer to Earth's clean air problems will be an economic disaster for America and is estimated to add something like 60 cents to a gallon of gas, costing America more and more jobs and small businesses and do virtually nothing to clean up the climate without the cooperation of China and the other countries who pour pollution into the planet's atmosphere in truly alarming rates. Compared to China, America's pollution output is minimal. I've been there and seen it so thick it resembles ground fog. "Cash For Clunkers" was nothing but another government giveaway and unfortunately will prove to have done little to improve the flagging automobile industry on an ongoing basis. It just took money out of one pocket and put it into another. The administration is saying that this will probably be a jobless recovery. Now just what in the heck is a jobless recovery? How could such a thing be possible? The fact is that it isn't, unless they mean that the unions will benefit for a while from "Cash For Clunkers," or that the banks they gave billions to won't go out of business, or that the billions of dollars worth of pork Congress slipped into the budget will help their friends and buy some votes. Face it, Mr. President. Nothing you and your lapdog Democrats have done is working. Stimulus Package: Why has unemployment climbed to almost double digits since it's inception? TARP: I know, that was largely Bush's and the Democrat-controlled Congress, but the point is it was a just another government program that didn't work. Bank Bailouts: Same as above, but why won't the banks loan out the money Congress gave them? Do you believe Obama when he says that the health care bill would not cover illegal immigrants? I don't. That's a growing voting block and too big of a temptation for the liberals to leave behind. Do you believe him when he says that it will be revenue neutral, that it can be paid for in cuts? I don't. Do you believe him when he says there won't be panels to discuss assisted suicide with senior citizens? I don't. The V.A. already has a booklet with containing a questionnaire about ending life, and health care rationing happens under every government-run system. Do you believe him when he says it won't cover abortion? I don't. Do you believe him when he says you can keep your own health insurance? I don't. Did you believe him when he said he wouldn't prosecute the C.I.A. agents who used enhanced interrogation methods to get information from terrorist scumbags that saved countless American lives? If you did, you got fooled didn't you? What do you think? Pray for our troops, and for our country God Bless America Charlie Daniels
