Soap Box Archives Gathering Storm Clouds To me, if someone isn't honest it doesn't make any difference what other sterling attributes he or she has, their whole being is tainted by having to wonder if what they say is or is not the truth. President Obama is telling the American people less than the truth, which is tantamount to a lie. I heard him state on TV Wednesday night that he was in a hurry to get his latest piece of socialism, known as health care reform, because of letters he gets from American citizens saying they are desperate. Anybody with enough gray matter to get out of bed in the morning knows that the reason Obama is in such a hurry is that he knows that if the American people find out what is in this bill, any support he now has will melt like sugar in a rain storm. There are provisions in this bill that will take away your ability to buy personal insurance policies, even though Obama says that you can keep your private policies. When asked about this provision, which is right on page 16 of the bill, he said he was not familiar with that part of the legislation. Can you believe that he wants to rush a bill into law without even knowing what is in it? Of course, since the House's version of the bill is over 1,000 pages, it's not surprising that he hasn't had time to read it. There is also a provision in the bill, which would require seniors to have a counseling session with some bureaucrat at least every five years. Now what do you think this is besides death counseling? In other words, if you're old and causing a drain on the government health care system, you owe it to your fellow man to go ahead and die and would be denied the medicine or treatment it would take to save your life. According to Obama, if you're elderly and in need of a pacemaker, you may be better off to forgo surgery and just take painkillers instead. In that one statement, Obama has told senior citizens what they can expect from his health care plan. Remember the liberal battle cry, "Bush lied, people died?" How about, "Obama's lying, old people will be dying?" What gives the government the right to decide when you die? That's God's decision and God's decision alone, and the way I see it any attempt to end life before God does is usurping divine rights and woe be to the ones who take it on themselves to make that decision. The Congress, President and other government employees will not have to go on this ridiculous plan. If it's so wonderful why doesn't Congress set the example and volunteer to put them and their families on the same plan they're trying to stick us with? You know why? Because they know the plan sucks, and they're not about to expose themselves and their families to the kind of substandard health care this plan will bring to unsuspecting Americans. Why in the name of all that is sane do we even consider doing this when it has been tried time after time and has miserably failed everywhere it's been tried. We have to look no further than North of the border to Canada to find out how socialized medicine works, or rather doesn't work. Why do you think that Canadians who can afford to come to the United States for their medical treatments? The way to fix health care is to lower the cost. The way to lower the cost is simple. Tort reform. I'm not talking about those who have truly been a victim of medical malpractice. I'm talking about greedy people out to get rich quick. If frivolous lawsuits brought by overzealous ambulance chasers were limited, then health care costs would go down dramatically. How do we do that? Loser pays. It's that simple. Unfortunately, this will never happen while the Democrats control Congress, and in a speech to the American Medical Association, Obama himself stated that he would not support tort reform. People please wake up to the fact that this is not about health care, this is about turning your life and you future over to a socialistic President and an inept, bungling and dishonest Congress. And one other unrelated note, I don't care what financial strata you belong to, if Obama and Congress are left to their own devices, your taxes, your health care and your living costs are going to rise exponentially as the worthless money the Fed is printing starts taking hold and inflation raises it's ugly head.
