Good
People
If you've been to the movies lately you've probably been exposed
to a lot of female body parts and four letter words, neither
of which have a valid relevance to the plot of the movie.
A lot of people are addicted to pornography and have no trouble
finding it on the Internet or practically any magazine rack
they care to visit.
Our news reports are inundated with reports of violent crime
and child abuse, corporate and political corruption. And it
comes at us from all directions day after day and if you drew
all your conclusions about the state of things in America by
what you see and hear in the media, you'd think the majority
of Americans were going to hell in a hand basket.
Now I'm not saying that all is well in the U.S.A. We have some
very serious and dangerous problems and certainly have our share
of criminals and scalawags but let¹s not throw the baby
out with the dirty bath water.
Folks, take it from somebody who has first hand contact with
thousands of people a year, there are many more good people
out there than there are the other kind. I meet them and hear
from them all the time.
Hard working, charitable, God fearing people whose profile and
opinions are seldom aired a media seeking the sensational, the
macabre and the outlandish.
In this age when the tempo of our lives is so affected by the
mass media I think that we are blinded by the light and unable
to see some very important facts.
For instance, by watching the evening news you would reach the
conclusion that a majority of American support abortion. This
is just simply not true, there is not a clear-cut majority,
which supports abortion, and the support for partial birth abortion
is very low.
Most people don¹t get involved in pornography and would
very much like to see something done to keep it out of the hands
of impressionable children and teenagers.
The vast majority of Americans want to see the mess in the corporate
boardrooms of America cleaned up, in fact it has been mostly
them who have been hurt by the Enron and similar scandals. Greedy
executives dissolving the life savings of decent people to line
their own pockets.
Most people do want to see a meaningful solution to the immigration
problem. They want to see child predators taken out of commission
and the streets of our cities made safe.
Most people don¹t support the A.C.L.U. in their attempt
to make America a Godless nation.
So what I'm trying to say is, take heart America. You have millions
of brothers and sisters out there across this country who feel
the same way you do.
From Atlantic to Pacific and everywhere in between there are
good people, raising up children in the way that they should
go, paying their taxes, doing good deeds, being good citizens.
Don't ever lose sight of that.
Pray for our troops.
