Christmas
Times A Coming
We are fast
approaching my very favorite season of the year, Christmas, and all
that it means.
At Twin Pines
Ranch it means putting lots of firewood on the back porch,
decorating four Christmas trees, lighting up the cross that stands at
the
top of our driveway and bringing out Nat King Cole's version of The
Christmas Song, not to mention CDB's two Christmas albums.
Somehow Santa
Claus seems to know when we have our annual celebration
because he always shows up with gifts for the little ones and we are
now
into our second generation of kids who have sat on Santa's lap at the
Twin
Pines Christmas party.
It's the one
time of year when all our employees, band, crew, fan club
folks, office staff and ranch hands all get together in one bunch and
enjoy
each other's company for a few hours and celebrate another year together.
It's the time
for me to tell everybody that they have done a good job and
pass out the bonus checks for the year. I can't express how much I love
each and every one of my employees. They take such good care of me and
make my life so much easier with their caring and devoted attention
to every detail of my career. A lot of them have been with me for twenty-five
and thirty years and truly are my extended family.
I love having
a fire in the fireplace and tend to build one every day during
the season. It just goes along with a Twin Pines Christmas. Hazel has
a lot
of help decorating and they all do a truly great job of it and our house
is
so homey and warm feeling everywhere you look. And of course there's
always plenty of food around.
I am big on
tradition and one that we started many years ago was having
family and friends over on Christmas Eve night, a time of fellowship
and
love that always culminates in my reading of a story I wrote many years
ago
called, A Carolina Christmas Carol and St. Luke's version of The Christmas
Story, which after all is why we celebrate Christmas every year.
Regardless of
what the world tries to make out of it, no matter how many
A.C.L.U. lawyers come out of the woodwork and try to hinder our public
displays, no matter how many forces of darkness try to strike it down,
the
meaning of the twenty-fifth of December, what we call Christmas was
decided two thousand years ago and will always commemorate the birth
of the only begotten son of Almighty God, Jesus Christ and it will be
so at my house as long as I live.
Happy Birthday
Jesus and thank you for saving my soul.
Here's wishing
you all a wonderful Christmas and may we remember the ones who will
spend their Christmas in foreign and hostile lands protecting those
of us who enjoy the freedom to celebrate this wonderful day.
Pray for our
troops.
