Distrust and Overload 08/25/06

Does the American public have such a one track mind that the twenty-four hour news channels have to pound the same story at us all day and all night?

I am as incensed at the brutal murder of Jon Benet Ramsey as anybody else and if John Mark Karr is the one who did it, I hope they'll take him out and hang him, but I don't need to know what he had for breakfast and what color tennis shoes he wore in the third grade.

Our news coverage has become about the story du jour not having as much to do with importance as sensationalism as they pontificate, speculate, slice, dice and grind, with every conceivable kind of guest they can come up with. Lawyers, doctors, supposed experts, whiners and such all trying to get a little face time.

And have you noticed how many people are supposed to be experts on all subjects, that whether they're reporting a violent crime or a war they keep dredging up some of the same people to pass their opinions on whatever
subject is dominating the media on whatever given day.

Even the weather report can take on a grim facade as they trot out the storm tracker and count the lightening strikes a hundred miles away and remind people to take shelter and of course to stay tuned to that particular
station to find out what's happening

Now I'm not belittling the weather report and the early warning system they represent, but come on. Do we need all that every time there is heavy dew?

During the first war in Iraq I was watching CNN when they said that Israel had been hit by a scud missile and that they were retaliating at that very
moment.

I thought, oh, here we go, Israel is attacking Iraq and the war is going to expand to the whole Arab world. Fortunately I flipped over to a slightly more reliable channel and never even heard it mentioned, in other words it
was totally untrue.

It seem that much of the media is not content to simply report the news, they want to manufacture it, selectively showing one side or the other of a happening or issue to make it play out the way they want it to. The truth be
hanged.

We hear a lot about Al Jazeera television, certainly an anti-American news outlet in the Middle East but we don't hear about the other two news organizations who have developed an avocation out of bashing America. I'm
talking about CNN International and the BBC, British Broadcasting.

They take the anti American side of every issue trying to give the world the impression that America is responsible for just about everything that goes wrong on the planet and that anybody who allies with us is just as bad. And
in so doing they defend, encourage and promote terrorists.

I wonder how long it would take the Islamic terrorists to cut the throats of the people at CNN and the BBC if they would win the war on terror and there was no America to bash anymore.

Not very long.

Pray for our troops.

What do you think?

God Bless America
