Soap Box Archives Dead Beats 06/23/06 I have my own shortcomings, many of them and Im pretty understanding toward others who have them too. In fact, I can put up with a lot but one of the things I simply cannot stand is a man who fathers a child and doesnt support it. I know you high minded intellectuals and bleeding heart lung and liver types think that the trouble in this nation is caused by a dont care society and a calloused government, that the problems would just go away if we threw enough money at it and built enough rehab centers and counseling classes. Well first of all, the breakdown is in society itself, the great society as Lyndon Johnson called it. Now Im not saying that President Johnson didnt mean well when he started all these welfare programs designed to help raise the standard of living for some of Americas poorest citizens. What Im
saying is that it simply hasnt worked and we are in our And what happens to the children? Many of them live in a family with several siblings with different fathers and the poor little things dont even know who he is. So many of these children are just turned out on the mean streets of a city to fend for themselves, to learn the seamier side of life and join criminal street gangs. When the girls are in their early teens they start getting regularly pregnant and the whole process begins another generation of welfare dependents. Its a
vicious cycle and one that desperately needs to be broken up. Give people
jobs not checks, give them fishing poles, not fish. We are doing an incaculable injustice to these people to allow this fallacy to continue decade after decade. It only fosters more dependence and its a drain on the public coffers. A man or boy
who fathers a child should be forced to pay for A man who turns his back on his family or walks away and leaves his offspring for society to raise is not a man and should not be treated as one and I dont care how many A.C.L.U. slugs crawl out of the wall and accuse me of recommending slave labor. Going to work everyday and taking care of your children youve brought into the world is not slave labor. Its a responsibility and if youre not man enough to do it you should be forced to. If you dont want to support children keep your pants zipped up.
