Christians
The recent school shootings have all been cruel beyond comprehension,
but none crueler than the one at the Amish school in Pennsylvania.
These are gentle people, who have separated themselves from
the world and live simple and sequestered lives, bothering nobody,
content to live without electricity and powering their farm
implements with horses and mules.
Hazel and myself once had the honor of having dinner with an
Amish family
and spending time with them and their neighbors around a big
fire afterwards, playing instruments and singing. They are fine
and honorable people who want none of the turmoil of the world
around them and do their best to raise their children in an
atmosphere of faith and family.
It took only one perverted monster to shake the Amish community
to its
roots. Can you imagine what it would be like to lose this many
children in a
small community in a few minutes? It would have been bad enough
if these
little girls had died in an accident to but think what the last
few minutes
of their lives must have been like could only add to the burden
laid on
their shoulders.
This demented and horrendous act may have shook the very fabric
of the Amish but it did not shake their faith. In one of the
most shining examples of Christianity I've ever experienced
the Amish people have declared their
forgiveness for the man who wantonly murdered their daughters.
In a shining example of what Christianity is not there are a
group of people
going around the country protesting the funeral of fallen military
heroes
and just about everything else that doesn't fit their twisted
beliefs.
Yes, they are the ones who stand by the highways with the signs
that say God hates fags.
These people had actually made plans to protest the funerals
of these little
Amish girls. Why? According to their spokeswoman the Amish had
brought this on themselves because they had sinned in some way.
Thank God that something happened to keep them from demonstrating
but even the notion is unthinkable.
It seems they've appointed themselves the earthly judge of all
people and
seem to think that nobody obeys God but them. My Bible says
that we have all sinned and I'm sure that includes this bunch
of self-righteous finger
pointers.
I, here and now, want to inform anybody who will listen that
this is not the
kind of Christianity myself and the vast majority of my brothers
and sisters
in the Lord practice. I want to distance myself from these people.
They do
not express my views nor my beliefs and I think their actions
are despicable
and disgusting.
Christianity is based on love and forgiveness and I find neither
in these
people. I find only abuse and hatefulness. It is not a Christian
act to add
to the hurt of the families of soldiers who have died an honorable
death in
a war defending the freedom of this country.
And it is literally sick to even consider demonstrating at the
funerals of
innocent little girls. It is unfeeling, uncaring and downright
stupid in my
book.
I want to express my deepest condolences to all the families
who have lost
children in school shootings. Whatever it takes, we've got to
stop it
Pray for our troops
What do you think?
