The Gray Area 01/10/05

The other day I had an email, a very respectful email, from someone who was critical of some of the statements I had made in some of my soapboxes. Of course I welcome critiques whether pro or con and respect the opinions of those who send them.

The trouble that this particular person had with my writings was that I was being too concise in drawing my conclusions about world events, that there were a lot of gray areas that I was not paying heed to.

Please believe me I don’t claim to think I’m infallible or even wise for that matter and I will admit that there are conundrums and catch 22 situations but I think that the gray line is a lot thinner than we are willing to admit.

It’s easy to assign things to a gray area for which there is no clear-cut answer. The gray area in most instances is a dumping ground for things we either don’t want or are unwilling to face.

The truth is the truth is the truth and that’s the lowest common denominator for any subject.

For instance is the world better off without Saddam Hussein? The answer to that question is definitely yes.

Did he have weapons of mass destruction? The answer to that is also yes. We know that because he used them on the Kurds in his own country. He has either hidden them really well or sent them out of the country when he knew we were coming. My best guess is Syria.

Should we have gone to war in Iraq? That’s a decision that every American has to make for themselves. Let’s consider the alternative.

Let’s say that we didn’t go to war in Iraq and Saddam managed to get just one of his poison gas weapons in the hands of a terrorist group and that group had set it off at Hollywood and Vine in Los Angeles at noon on a working day.

Nothing gray about the effects of that.

God left no gray areas in The Bible. The Ten Commandments are very clear. There are mysteries in The Bible in the form of prophecies but they are not gray areas and will be revealed in their proper time.

In my humble opinion, what this nation and for that matter the personal lives of it's citizens, desperately needs are less gray areas and more personal responsibility. We need less fence straddling, more decisiveness, less talk, and more action.

I will admit that I am not completely devoid of gray areas. I have two of them, my hair and my beard.

Pray for our troops

What do you think?
