Signs of The Times 01/07/05

The loss of life in the recent earthquakes and resultant Tsunami is almost beyond comprehension in modern times. I have known of many earthquakes in my 68 years but I cannot recall one which had the power to actually move an existing island one hundred and fifty feet.

As I write this, the estimates of the loss of life is climbing toward 150,000 and nobody knows where it will stop. And that's only those who were killed in the initial tragedy, not even taking into consideration those who will die from deprivation and disease.

It will be like decimating the entire population of a middle-sized city before this is over.

The Bible speaks of catastrophic times in the last days of human history,

Could all these natural and man-made disasters be combining to tell us something?

I believe so.

Jesus spoke about wars and rumors of wars, nation rising against nation, earthquakes and famines, about the sun and moon being darkened and stars falling from the sky and the heavens being shaken.

We live in some terrifying days and I personally believe that what has begun will not cease. I believe that "Peace on Earth" is a beautiful, noble but unattainable dream until the day when the Prince of Peace returns and puts an end to war forever.

Please don't misunderstand what I'm saying. I fervently believe that we should strive for peace and help our fellow human beings as much as we possibly can and the world's response to the recent tragedy is nothing short of commendable.

It's just from what I understand from my Bible and people whose opinions I deeply respect I believe that something has been set in motion that cannot be reversed.

I believe that this generation will see and experience things never before witnessed on this planet. Some wonderful and some horrible.

The day is coming when the Islamic nations will gather together and come against Israel and one of my main concerns for America is where we will stand when that happens. Will we stand with Israel or will we go to the United Nations and pass a resolution condemning the invaders?

I believe that the fate of America could well be tied to this one decision.

Remember God said that he who blessed Israel he would bless and he that curses Israel he will curse.

Oh and by the way, all but one sixth of this vast army will fall on the field of battle by divine intervention.

Does all this sound a little far-fetched and fantastic to you? Well check it out for yourself in God's word. The place to find it is in Ezekiel, chapters 38 and 39.

Are all these things terrifying? Of course they are. When are they going to happen? I don't know the day but I believe the season is at hand. Should we be afraid? Not if you're a true follower of Jesus Christ.

Jesus told us that when these things begin to happen to look up that our redemption draws nigh. It gets closer every day.
