Seasonal Thoughts 12/10/04

I don't celebrate X-mas or Kwanzaa or the winter solstice on The 25th of December. I celebrate Christmas, that's right Christ-mas, with the emphasis on the word Christ.

I find it hard to believe that there are so many organizations, namely the A.C.L.U., in this nation, who are so deathly afraid of allowing Jesus to be acknowledged on His birthday and are even willing to change the name of the holiday to achieve their misguided purposes.

Can you imagine the uproar if the A.C.L.U. would try to change Martin Luther King Day? What if they tried to call it African American History Day or Black Remembrance Day?

Can you imagine the outrage of the black community? And rightfully so.

To take Christ out of Christmas is not only wrong, it's downright stupid since the holiday would not even exist if not for Him.

I was really surprised to hear about the stand that the people who control the Christmas parade in Denver, Colorado took this year. They would not even let a Christian group march in the parade and sing Christmas carols.

Why are these people so afraid of the name of Jesus Christ? And that's what it amounts to. They're simply afraid of allowing His name or any semblance of anything mentioning God in public.

OK, A.C.L.U., since you're so bent on doing away with religion in our public schools how about a lawsuit against the school boards who are forcing our children to learn about Islam?

This country was founded by people with a strong belief in God and if you don't believe it just read any of the early federal papers where His name is mentioned by our forefathers so many times.

I would like to pose a very serious question to all you people who are so determined to take the name of God out of public life and the name of Jesus out of Christmas.

Imagine this:

You're lying on your deathbed; the doctor has told you that you only have hours to live. You're getting ready to step into eternity at any time. Your breath is getting shallow and you're feeling weaker by the second.

The question is this. How are you going to feel about the existence of God at that time? Are you willing to face Him in the judgment and tell Him why He had no place in American public life?

And can you explain why you were so adamant during your life about keeping Jesus Christ, who suffered and died for you, out of Christmas and even tried to deny his followers the right to march in parades and proclaim their faith on his birthday?

Is the copy of the Ten Commandments you helped remove from the state capitol going to become an eternal weight around your neck and does the existence of that nativity scene on the courthouse square really seem so offensive to you as you take that last labored breath?

Merry Christmas.

Pray for our troops.

What do you think?
