2004 Soap Box Archives United Nations 12/03/04 The very name of the organization is misleading. It is not the United Nations, in fact, about the only thing this bunch of overpaid so called diplomats are united in is their hate of all things American, that is all things American except our money or our military assistance when they get their tails caught in the door. Not only is the organization not united, it is corrupt and it’s looking now as if the corruption goes to the very top of the food chain, no pun intended. Now that the upper echelon of UN officials have been caught with their collective hands in the cookie jar they want to conduct their own internal investigation. That’s tantamount to letting a gray fox run the henhouse. The oil for food debacle is not only an example of out of control greed, it is an example of treachery, deceit and downright cruelty, literally taking food out of the mouths of babies and propping up the most cruel regime since Adolph Hitler. People in positions of power who turn out to have clay feet don’t surprise me anymore, and as one who has long mistrusted the motives of the UN, I certainly am not taken by surprise at what this bunch of thugs have done. How many Sean Penn type arguments did you hear before the war about how the American embargo was the cause of the abject misery of the Iraqi people, when all the time the United Nations and high officials of the French and other foreign governments were lining their pockets with blood money while they went about the business of trying to get the embargos lifted so Saddam and his demonic regime could continue to torture and suppress the helpless people of Iraq. Where are you now, you “Blame America first” people, now that it has been proven that Saddam took the money which was meant to feed the hungry people of his country? Why is it so hard for you to face the truth? Why can’t you speak out now? How long will we go through this farce and pretending that the United Nations is anything but a colossal waste of time? It is also a colossal waste of money as America shells out the lion’s share of the cost to support this paper tiger. In my opinion about all the United Nations does is bring a bunch of arrogant diplomats to town who park their cars wherever they please, get in trouble and claim diplomatic immunity and take up a piece of prime Manhattan real estate. If the UN is the spotless, honorable entity it would like us all to believe it is, they would welcome an external investigation. If they had nothing to hide they would be anxious for some agency to come in, make impartial findings and clear the air. Unfortunately that is not the case. There is no telling just how far and how high up this scandal will reach, maybe to the very highest echelons of the UN and some of its member nations. It’s time for the United Nations to put its house in order. Clean it up or shut it down. I vote for the latter. Pray for our troops What do you think? God Bless America Charlie Daniels
