Good News For A Change 10/18/04

War by nature is a horrible thing. There’s no doubt about it and we hear about the atrocities on a daily basis as the major media of the world emphasize the killings and maiming, the beheadings and the deaths of military and innocent people alike.

However there is something missing from the major news reports, something very important and that is the good things which have been accomplished by our troops in Iraq.

The information I quote here comes not from some news organization or government source but from one of the combat troops who has experienced the positive side of things on the battleground.

I’d like to borrow from his email and share a few with you.

1. Over 400,000 kids in Iraq have up to date immunizations. Just think about something we take for advantage for our kids.

2. School attendance is up 80% from levels before the war.

3. Over 1,500 schools have been renovated and ridded of the weapons stored there so they can be used to educate the children again.

4. The port of Uhm Qasar has been renovated so that grain can be off loaded faster.

5. The country had its first 2 billion barrel export of oil in August.

6. Over four and a half million Iraqis are drinking clean water for the first time ever.

7.The country receives twice the electrical power it had before the war.

8. One hundred percent of hospitals are open and fully staffed compared to 35 percent before the war.

9. Elections are taking place in every major city and city councils are already in place.

10. Sewer and water are installed in every major city.

11. Over sixtythousand police are patrolling the streets.

12. Over 100,000 Iraqi civil defense police are securing the country.

13. Over 80,000 Iraqi soldiers are patrolling the streets beside U.S. soldiers.

14. Over 400,000 people have telephones for the first time ever.

15. Students are taught field sanitation and hand washing techniques to prevent the spread of germs.

16. An interim constitution has been signed.

17. Girls are allowed to go to school.

18. Textbooks don’t mention Saddam for the first time in 30 years.

These are the words of a United States soldier.

“Don’t believe for one second these people don’t want us there, I have met many people from Iraq who want us there in a bad way. They say they will never see the freedoms we talk about but maybe their children will.

We are doing a good job in Iraq and I challenge anyone anywhere to dispute me on these facts.

If you are like me and very disgusted with how this period of rebuilding has been portrayed email this to a friend and let them know there are good things happening”.
End quote.

Nuff said.

Pray for our troops.

What do you think?

God Bless America
