So It's Come To This 10/01/04

Now let me get this straight. I don’t watch Oprah Winfrey so I got this all second hand but my understanding is that on her show one day Oprah gave everybody in the studio audience the keys to a brand new car, no strings attached.

And now some of them have found out that they have to pay taxes on the cars and they’re complaining.

Give me a break, have we really got people in this country who are so dumb that they don’t know they could sell the car for less than what it’s worth, pay off the taxes and still pocket a tidy sum?

I’ve heard it all now, you can’t even give somebody something without some of them acting as if you are taking advantage of them.

This is the height of audacity, to criticize this generous woman for trying to do a good thing.

Not since Elvis has anybody passed out so many cars to so many people, she is to be commended, not criticized.

One of the boilerplate headlines said something about poor people being saddled with tax bills as if Ms. Winfrey had done them some kind of injustice. Even the media, supposedly the smartest people on earth, evidently don’t have sense enough to recognize a gift when they see it.

Is this the new direction of political correctness that when you give somebody something you have to pay the taxes for them too? Bunk!!!!!!

This is so stupid that it doesn’t even deserve to be mentioned. If people don’t want to be bothered with paying the taxes, all they have to do is refuse delivery. Then the whole thing just goes away just like it never happened and the horrible traumatic experience is over.

I wonder how many will have to be hospitalized for having to go through this catastrophic situation. Prozac will probably flow by the ton, psychiatrists’ offices will be packed and surely Senator Kennedy won’t let this blatant debacle go unanswered.

And what if some of these people can’t drive? Can you imagine the lawsuits resulting from somebody knowingly giving a lethal
weapon to folks who don’t know how to operate it properly? The lawyers must be salivating already.

As many scams and con games as people are subjected to, you would think that they would appreciate it when somebody was being genuinely nice to them.

This gives new meaning to the old adage about looking a gift horse in the mouth. This is tantamount to taking him to the dentist.

Pray for our troops.

What do you think?
