Voting 05/07/04

I know that I have my own strong political persuasions and my own ideas about how things should be done. I know that I’m opinionated and adamant. I also know that a lot of you people are the same way and some of you totally disagree with me. And that’s alright, I’m certainly not always right, but I will say that everything I write is always done with a sense of patriotism from my point of view.

Speaking of points of view, there is no place like the voting booth to let your opinion be heard and counted. After the last Presidential Election nobody can ever say that their vote doesn’t count.

It only takes a few minutes to exercise our right to vote and if you happen to be out of town on Election Day you can vote by early absentee ballot. I do it quite often because of all the traveling I do.

I just can’t figure why America is so lax when it comes to voting.
It creates an undesirable situation. Just think about this………

The politicians know who is going to vote and who is going to stay home. They know what segments of the population will be going to the polls and all they have to do is tailor their advertising to those groups. They don’t worry about those of us who don’t vote.

The senior citizens are going to vote, certain ethnic groups and minorities always go to the polls but a huge percentage of John Q just sits at home and watches the results on television and spends the next four years complaining about them.

Are the feelings of America really made known? Do we have a true representation of American opinion when so many people don’t bother to vote?

I think not. I truly believe that if eighty percent of the electorate
of this nation would go to the polls on any given election, that it would shake the very foundations of Washington and the state capitols of this nation.

This is not a pitch to try to get you to vote for anybody in particular, but it is a pitch to get you to vote. Vote for whomever you want to but just vote.

If you think we need change in this country and think that John Kerry is the man to bring it about, by all means go and cast your ballot for him.

If you think that President Bush is doing a good job and don’t want to change horses in the middle of the stream go to the polls and pull his lever.

America needs to let its opinion be known and there is no better way to send a message to our elected officials than in the voting booth.

This year we are facing an ultra important election. The next President will set the course for America in some areas which could effect our very survival and you should at least have a say on who has the codes to the nuclear football.

Won’t you please take a few minutes and vote this year?

Pray for our troops.

What do you think?

God Bless America
