Kerry People 03/29/04

Why are you Kerry people so uptight and abrasive? What are you upset about?

If you’re going to twist off every time someone says something derogatory about your candidate, you’re in for a long eight months. The heavy stuff hasn’t even started to fly yet.

If you really believe that Mr. Kerry is the man to become President, by all means vote for him and work for him but don’t think that everybody is going to feel the same way about him that you do.

As do all political candidates, Mr. Kerry drags around a considerable bit of baggage, some public knowledge and some which will be made public knowledge before this campaign is over. The public is likely to know what brand of toothpaste the Senator uses before November.

It’s unfortunate that political campaigns have become sordid and underhanded and here I place the blame on both parties.
Neither is blameless when it comes to dishing out the dirt, but the institution which has to accept most of the blame is the media.

They pick up on and perpetuate rumors, innuendo and downright untruths, the filthier the better and then turn around and roundly criticize the political parties for mud slinging. There would be no need for slinging mud if the media didn’t tell the world about it.

It seems that every election year the media assumes a tabloid mentality spreading the slightest off color item, blowing it all out of proportion.

On Sunday mornings the talking heads theorize, speculate and pontificate on the effect of the latest piece of gossip and how it will make the candidate appear to the public and effect him or her in the polls.

Every candidate claims to want to have a campaign based on the issues but when it comes right down to it, the issues take a back seat to the juicy tales of questionable business dealings or errant sex and that’s a real shame.

The campaigns should be based on the convictions. We as voters should be concerned with what kind of public servant a person will make, how they really feel about the issues and the vision they have for America, not some supposedly off color remark they made thirty years ago.

But I’m afraid that kind of thinking is just a bit too idealistic because it just ain’t gonna happen. It’s going to be business as usual and dirty business at that.

So you Kerry people better just relax and stop taking everything to heart. This is the big time, it’s for all the marbles and not one door is going to be left closed or one year of a candidate’s life left unexamined.

Just tighten the cinch and get ready for a long, tough ride.

Pray for our troops.

What do you think?

God Bless America
