The Whirlwind 08/11/03

The Episcopal Church has recently ordained a gay bishop and it has the
whole denomination in an uproar, as it should have. It is a bold step
toward humanizing the Episcopal Church and a giant step away from the
mores of Christianity.

This soapbox is not about homosexuality. One only has to look at the
first chapter of Romans in the New Testament and many places in the
Old Testament to discover God’s feelings on the subject. if you don’t
like what He has to say about it, take it up with Him.

What I wanted to write about is the way that the hierarchy of the
Episcopal Church is ignoring the word of God in making their decision.

I saw two bishops being interviewed on television and they were
condoning their position by playing fast and loose with the Holy
Scriptures. They said that the Bible had been used to keep women out
of the clergy and to justify slavery.

What I got out of the conversation is that they seemed to think that
the Bible was some old and archaic document which had no relevance in
today’s society. They seemed to think that they could interpret the
Scriptures to make them fit a situation.

What a travesty, what a miscarriage of Biblical doctrine. God’s word
is not meant to be twisted and bent to fit some present day social
situation. These are not the writings of Darwin which can be altered
and revised to try to prove some scientific point.

The Bible is not philosophy or political comment on the times in which
it was written. It is the unalterable, infallible word of Almighty God
and to pretend that is anything less is tantamount to knocking on the
gates of hell.

How did we ever get the satanically inspired idea that we could make
the teachings of the Bible fit our lifestyle and not make our lifestyle
fit the teachings of the Bible. This is a horrible fallacy.

“Heaven and earth may pass away but my word will never pass away.”
That means that it will not change. It means the same thing today as
it did when it was written thousands of years ago.

There is no justification in the Holy Bible for what these Episcopal
bishops have done. Nowhere can they find one sentence of Scripture
which condones their actions.

I feel for the good Christian people in the Episcopal faith who are
opposed to this move and feel powerless against the liberal branch of
their clergy. This could well tear the denomination apart as the laity
absorbs the shock of this
unholy decision.

There are warnings in the Bible about taking away from the word of God,
about calling good evil and evil good. The Scripture speaks of sowing
the wind and reaping the whirlwind.

Pray for our troops.
