Finishing The Job

If there is a lesson to be learned from the Gulf War it is that
we made a horrible mistake for not destroying Saddam Hussein
and his ability to wage war.

After the lives lost, the tremendous amount of money and resources
expended, it looks as if we’re going to have to go back and do it again.

When President Bush made the decision to leave Saddam alive
with at least some of his military hardware I knew that it was
a mistake that would come back to haunt us in the years to come.

And during the Clinton years he not only rebuilt his army but
was allowed to kick the UN inspectors out of his country so he could
carry on his nuclear program without interference or discovery.

There is no question that he will use these weapons if and when he
perfects them. Everyday we wait to squash this monster is another day
that his nuclear program moves forward.

If we had finished the job during the Gulf War we wouldn’t be
plagued with this heartless, dangerous scum bag.

Now we are involved in another war against a force just as dangerous and
just as unprincipled as Saddam Hussein on his worst day, and
faced with the same choice. Do we finish the job, do we fight
terrorism no matter where it leads us or do we make a cosmetic effort
and pull back leaving people who would like nothing better than to
destroy America alive and with the capability to carry out their evil?

While our young men and women risk their lives for the protection of the
land they love. Anti-American college professors and trust fund brats
parade around university campuses spouting idealistic platitudes about
peaceful solutions.

There is nothing like an educated fool to miss the forest and the
trees. The same people who blame these terrorist attacks on American
foreign policy are the same people who defended Bill Clinton who had no
foreign policy at all.

The same old “Save the whales” and “Kill the babies” crowd who come out
of the woodwork every time there is a chance to belittle and criticize
America.

Of course, the media love these people and follow them around with
cameras so their twisted opinions can be made known to the country on
the evening news.

I don’t believe for one minute that these people represent the
feelings of the vast majority of the American people. I would like to
see the media take a camera to a truck stop or a sawmill or supermarket
and find out how the people who work for a living feel about this war.

Many of them fought in Viet Nam and the Persian Gulf. They’ve had first
hand experience in the horrors of combat and don’t want
to see their sons and daughters have to go to war. So they want the job
finished now.

We have a president who has the guts and the will to see this thing
through and has surrounded himself with men and women
who are capable and experienced. But he must have the good will of the
American people to continue the war on terrorism.

He needs our prayers and support.
Let’s give them to him.

Pray for our troops.
