2002 Soap Box Archives Billy Graham Recently the media has been reporting that Billy Graham had something disparaging to say about the Jews. They are getting their information from a decades old tape that was recorded during a conversation between Mr. Graham and then President Richard Nixon. Mr. Graham was purported to have said something about there being a lot of Jews in television or something of that nature. Just that line was reported, not the line before or the line after and we have absolutely no idea what context it was said in . To pillory this good man for something he was supposed to have said all those years ago is asinine to put it in the mildest terms. Billy Graham has spent his life in service to God and mankind and has led multitudes to the Cross of Jesus Christ, which has made this world a much better place. He is a rare combination of brilliance and common sense, class and compassion,honor and humility. There is nobody else on this earth who I respect more than Billy Graham. Who did the nation turn to after the disaster of 9 11? Billy Graham stood as a symbol of stability in the face of tragedy, a man rooted in faith with absolute confidence that God is in charge. A comfort to a nation seeking answers. How could anyone with half a brain in their head possibly think that Billy Graham is anything other than a true and good friend of the Jews? Billy Graham loves the Jews. The Jesus he has preached about for all these years was a Jew. All true Christians are friends of the Jews. We are told in the Bible to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Mr. Graham is humble and down to earth and is the object of great adoration which he refuses to accept personally but points out that his ministry is not about Billy Graham but about Jesus Christ. There has never been breath of scandal in his ministry. His financial records are impeccable and his reputation for honesty is valid and well deserved. He refuses to criticize, is quick to forgive and while he is an educated and eloquent man he doesn’t wear his intellectuality on his sleeve. While he is much sought after by presidents and dignitaries, he is perfectly at home in the company of common folks. Billy Graham has never claimed to be anything other than a preacher of The Gospel from North Carolina. And yet he has traveled the world bringing the message of hope and redemption to millions and millions of hurting people. Even now in his golden years when most people would be content to sit on the front porch and look forward to their reward in Heaven, Billy Graham is still out there leading lost souls to Christ. There is nobody else like Billy Graham and to accuse him of even the mildest form of anti-Semitism is a national insult and an out and out lie. I don’t know exactly what was on that tape but I know in my heart that Mr. Graham would never in a hundred lifetimes say something that would be harmful or hurtful to the Jews or anybody else for that matter. Back off media. Quit trying to see smoke where there is no fire. Millions of people around the world love and respect this good man. Count me in that multitude. What do you think? God
