Leadership

In the dark days of World War Two, Winston Churchill went on the BBC and said something to the effect of, “The British people would fight the Nazis in the streets with sticks and stones if necessary”. And when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, Franklin Delano Roosevelt told the nation that, “We had nothing to fear but fear itself”, and proceeded to fight and win the most vicious and devastating war the world has ever known. Harry Truman said, “The buck stops here”. Abraham Lincoln went against half the country because it was the right thing to do. Ronald Reagan scared the daylights our of Khadaffi and George Bush chased Saddam back into the hole he crawled out of. These men were leaders, men of decisive action who took the bull by the horns and held on until they accomplished the goals they set out to achieve. They stood in the breach and took the heat from the press, the Congress and whoever else wanted to criticize them. To lead means to march in front of everybody else and show them the way to go and the only leadership we’ve had in the last eight years is in the direction of socialism and moral decay. It’s time for some real leadership. The Republicans have the White House and both houses of Congress, albeit by a razor thin margin and it’s time to do some business. We have heard the promises, we have absorbed the rhetoric, we have heeded the call, now it’s time for action. Everybody is saying that it’s time to heal the wounds left by election and I agree. Both sides need to put America first and accept the results. But I’m hearing a lot about compromising, catering to the left leaning bunch of big spending, pro choice, big government lackeys who inhabit the halls of Congress. Well you know what I say, compromise hell, we didn’t send you people up there to compromise, there’s been way too much of that already. I’m sick and tired of spineless, milk sop, poll motivated politicians who cower at the feet of the Washington Post and shudder at the mere mention of Dan Rather’s name. The economy’s going South, the price of oil is going through the ceiling, the Russian mafia is operating in America and all these people are worried about is their next sound bite. Somebody has got to stand up and take the heat, looking neither left nor right, offending whenever necessary placating cajoling but never, never compromising. Somebody has got to go against the talking heads and political pundits who pollute the airwaves, ignore Larry King and give our enforcement agencies the tools they need to clean up the streets of America just because it’s the right thing to do. Somebody needs to tell Yasser Arafat that the Jews will never, never give up Jerusalem because it’s the truth, and restart our Star Wars program no matter what the rest of the world thinks about it because it’s good for America. Somebody needs to stand up to the out of control, ill informed environmental groups and say there is a safe way to produce domestic oil. We don’t need compromise, we need men and women who will have the courage of their convictions, who will do the job they were elected for. The next couple of years will tell the tale. I pray to God that it’s a good one.
