Near Miss

After the recent events in China it should be evident even to the most radical dove that this world is a dangerous place and that we need a strong defense to maintain our freedom and our place in the world. And people, it could have easily have been much worse. Our military has been seriously hurt by Bill Clinton and a congress without guts enough to stand up to him. I wonder what all the Clinton supporters thought all during this incident about the concessions he made to the Chinese, the secrets and technology they got away with and just how serious the repercussions would be. In my opinion, if America is to stand for freedom and justice how can we give China most favored nation status without lifting the sanctions on every other rogue nation we maintain them against? Nobody has a worse human rights record than they do. Nobody is more dangerous to the free world than they are and nobody is more willing to risk human life in conflict. The country is run by a bunch of over the hill, out of touch, aging gangsters who’s strangle hold on power is achieved only by the use of deadly force. Fidel Castro has never committed one hundredth of the crimes against humankind that China has. And we spurn Cuba and trade with China. Now don’t get me wrong, I have no use for Fidel Castro but it seems a little like gagging on a gnat and swallowing a camel. If China wants to enter the mainstream of world trade and relations they should be required to honor then same code of human rights that the rest of the civilized world abides by. By trading with them we only condone their system. I know a lot of people think that free trade with China is a good diplomatic move, that eventually they would become a consumer society which would lead to capitalism and eventually to a more democratic government. This would make sense if trade with China benefitted more than the handful of crooks who run the country. Many of the chinese companies operating in this country are solely owned by the chinese military and when we buy chinese goods we are contributing the largest standing army the world has ever known. An army which would like nothing better than to destroy the United States of America. Why are we so naive in this country? Why do we not realize that as much as we wish it was otherwise? The chinese are our enemies, most of the Middle East is our enemy and anyone who thinks we’ve heard last of Russia should find themselves a good head doctor. Unfortunately, planet earth is inhabited by some power hungry slime balls and we have to deal with them in a realistic and pragmatic way and that means having the strongest military possible. Nothing less will do. Congress should immediately fund the missile defense system before some of these psychos develop the ability to incinerate Los Angeles. Our military should be upgraded with every technological advantage we can give them. We should also pay our men and women in uniform for what they are. The people who stand between us and the people who would destroy our way of life. Pay in the military should be raised to keep the talented people we have now and to attract the best and the brightest in the future. Soldiering is an honorable profession and it’s high time we started treating them as such. They’ve always been there for us, now it’s time for us to be there for them.
