2001 Soap Box Archives Giving In Well the international olympic committee has done it again. After the fiasco over the Salt Lake City winter games they’ve turned around and done something even more appalling by awarding the 2008 games to red China (emphasis on red). Aren’t the olympic games supposed to be about the best and highest ideals, fair play and honor? If so, then how can these people allow the games to go to a country with state sanctioned suppression of speech and any kind of personal freedom, run by a bunch of hoodlums who just happen to have all the guns? What is it with these people? Are these not the liberal elite who scream the loudest about human rights? This is hypocrisy of the highest order. I wouldn’t give them the time of day, the bunch of depraved butchers. What about the detainment of American citizens who visit China? What about the prisons full of political prisoners who had the audacity to utter a word against the scum bag tyrants who run the country? What about the forced abortions, the persecution of Christians, the stifling of personal initiative and the never ending physical abuse of dissidents? By giving the games to China the International Olympic Committee is helping legitimize the most repressive regime since Joseph Stalin. I heard something to the effect that if China didn’t get the games that they would be mad and take it out on the United States. In other words, they are holding the world hostage because they’re afraid that the Chinese are going to raise some hell. Well I say, let them raise all the hell they want to. I say hold their feet to the fire. If they want to join the civilized world then it’s high time they started acting like a civilized country instead of a bunch of out of control war lords with a billion people to push around. Let them rant and rave, threaten and posture. As much as business people in this country would try to convince you otherwise, we don’t need the red Chinese or anything they produce. They are the ones who need us. They need our technology and our know how to help bring them into the twenty first century. They need our resources and hardware to bring them out of the middle ages. Are these not the same people who systematically stole our nuclear technology and corrupted our election process by contributing mass amounts of money to the Clinton - Gore campaign? Are these not the people who rattle their sabers the loudest and the most often, who thumb their collective noses when the rest of the world protests their barbaric behavior. Shame on you National Olympic Committee, shame on you for your cowardice, for your greed and for turning your back on the world’s biggest population who suffer at the hands of the very people who are going to profit from the olympic games. I don’t know what you could have been thinking about but it certainly wasn’t freedom and justice for all. Who’s next Cuba? What do you think? God
