Same Old, Same Old

As I watched the Democratic convention I was struck by two facts. First of all, everybody was quick to tell us what a great eight years it has been under President Clinton and then turn around and tell us what dire straits the country is in. Now which is it? Secondly, it was the same old song and dance about entitlements and government subsidized social programs which have been failing for the last thirty plus years. It seems that to these people the government is the answer to all of mankind’s problems. Nothing could be further from the truth. As I listened to the righteous, rhetoric and empty promises it occurred to me that the truth no longer matters to some people. If all the programs Al Gore proposed were enacted I believe that our already inflated tax burden would have become catastrophic. But isn’t that the Democratic philosophy to take all the money to Washington to be doled out by a know all benevolent government? Are we not too dumb and naive to take care of our own money? The rhetoric never changes. And the hypocrisy of political correctness so permeated the convention that even the delegates had to be a certain amount of women, a certain amount of lesbians, a certain amount of gays, a certain amount of Latinos a certain amount of blacks and a certain amount of Asian Americans. Mr. Gore could I give you some advice? First of all, if you really care so much about education forget about the teacher’s unions and start caring about the kids. School vouchers are the only way. Let people send their children to the school which teaches the curriculum which most suits their beliefs. You could kill two birds with one stone. The people who want their children to be taught Christian principles would never be a bother to the atheists and people of other religious persuasions. It would also create the smaller classes you claim to be concerned about. You went through your whole speech and never mentioned one word about what your foreign policy would be. In a world as troubled as the one we live in I think we should know how you stand on support for Israel, troops in Bosnia, support for Taiwan and so forth. You never mentioned our troubled neighbor to the south where largely due to the NAFTA agreement, drugs are pouring across the Mexican border by the ton, drug lords kill with impunity and the government is too corrupt to do anything about it. You didn’t mention the cowardice and complete lack of leadership your entire administration showed in the case of Elian Gonzales and what your policy toward Cuba, our closest enemy, would be. You spoke of a woman’s right to choose which is tantamount to, no encouraging, murder. Do you intend to veto another bill banning partial birth abortion as Mr. Clinton did? You claim to be so poll conscious, I can’t believe that you don’t know that the majority of the people in this country oppose that procedure. You said that you were proud to wear the uniform of your country yet you were not specific at all about what you’d do about the deplorable situation in our military now. Mr. Gore did you know that we even have military families who are eligible for food stamps? This for the men and women we expect to bear arms for us? Your party spoke about violence on the screen, yet you hob nobbed with the very people who portray this violence and make films where homosexuality is treated with more respect than Almighty God. People who belittle and scoff at the name of Jesus Christ. Where filthy language is rampant even in supposed children’s movies. You spoke about gun control but not about how to control the criminals who use the guns for violence. Mr. Gore don’t you know that the people who will abide by gun controls don’t need another law? Go after the criminals,not the guns. You say that you’re your own man but is sounds like you’re just a continuation of a man who doesn't seem to know the meaning of the word “is”.

Pray for our troops.
