Soap Box Archives What Ever Happened To America? A few days ago as I watched the bodies of the sailors who were killed aboard the U.S.S. Cole in Yemen being loaded on a plane, I wept. I wept for the mothers and fathers, the sisters and brothers, the children who will never know the solace of a heart to heart talk with dad, nor a fishing trip or football game or any of the other things which makes dads so special. I wept for the young wife who will never again know the warm comfort of her husbands arms, and the husband and children who face the future without their wife and mother. And I wept for America. What have we become that any nation on the face of this earth would have the nerve to risk the righteous wrath of the mighty United States of America? Well the sad truth is, just about anybody who can afford some high explosives and find a couple of idiots willing to die igniting it. Where is the anger? Where is the indignation? Are the lives of Americans no longer precious? Is attacking one of our war ships not tantamount to war? Americans from the President to the man in the street should be enraged at what happened in Yemen. Whoever sponsored this cowardly action should be hunted down and destroyed with bombs, bullets or whatever it takes to bring them down. Diplomacy only goes so far and will not work with bloodthirsty dogs like Oama Bin Ladin and his army of fanatical nut cases, and whether he is responsible for this attack or not he has been responsible for others which have gone unpunished. By not pursuing him and his kind with the utmost vigor we send a message to the militant terrorist garbage of the world that they can attack our people and our assets with impunity. Oh America, what have we become? A race of complacent, apathetic couch potatoes who care about nothing but our pocketbooks? This nation should be seething right now when in fact its more concerned with the world series than with the wanton murder of our sons and daughters. And I'm not talking about revenge. I'm talking about punishment. Payback retribution, which is the best deterrent. One sure way of making sure this doesnt happen again is by destroying the capabilities of the people who did it. How can we expect young men and women to serve this nation in foreign countries when our retribution is not swift and decisive? I feel sure that with all the technical expertise of the F.B.I. and the other agencies who are investigating the bombing of the Cole that we will find out who did this. If not the individuals, then at least the country or organization who sponsored it. My question is, when we find out what will we do? Take the matter to the floor of the United Nations to be mulled over by a bunch of long winded diplomats who will end up releasing a resolution condemning the bombing? Well that aint gonna work bubba. We need action, serious action. If these people want to tweak the eagles nose then they should pay the price. And the price is blood. Some idiot in the state department made the statement that the few sailors who had been killed did not compare to the hundred or so Palestinians who have been killed recently in the middle eastern troubles. How dare them make such a statement. Our sailors were not engaged in any kind of aggression. They were simply on board an American war ship. Its a disgrace to let this go any longer than it takes to find out who the perpetrators were but what should we expect out of an administration whos best effort at retribution so far has been destroying an aspirin factory.
