The Ten Commandments

I have always enjoyed Andy Rooney’s hyperbole and witticisms on sixty minutes. He has a knack for making us recognize the downright silliness which exists in our society. But this past Sunday I was really disappointed in Mr. Rooney who chose as his topic for ridicule the Ten Commandments. He went through and picked out the ones he thought were relevant to today, modified others and dismissed the rest. Why Mr. Rooney, who I think is probably a decent man, would choose to satirize the unchanging word of God is beyond me. Of course, Mr. Rooney is not alone, I have heard the Ten Commandments joked about and disrespected by far too many people lately. I don’t know how these people bring themselves to belittle the word of god when the Bible contains a strict warning about adding to or taking away from the holy scriptures. It would scare me to death to ridicule the things which are written in the Bible. I could never do it. I don’t want to have to face that in the hereafter. I can’t understand why people are so upset about displaying the Ten Commandments in public places. A lot of the same people who are so radically pro choice are just as radically opposed to the public display of the Ten Commandments. If these people really believed in the right to choose they would realize that a person could choose to walk right by the Commandments and never even glance at them. Freedom of choice, to look or not to look. The A.C. L. U. is adamantly opposed to having the Ten Commandments visible in public places and yet would fight tooth and nail for the right of pornographers to display their sleazy wares just about anyplace they want to. The people for the American way are opposed to it also. Their American way must be vastly different from the one established by our forefathers who had a great respect for the Commandments. This nation is on a collision course with anarchy as it is, as politically appointed liberal judges more concerned with coddling criminals than protecting the rights of the victims turn a blind eye to the decay in our streets and the system which is supposed to protect us is bogged down in plea bargains and revolving door prisons. Hollywood doesn’t have much respect for the Ten Commandments. They have gone from an industry which once made an epic film about the Commandments to an industry which seems to strive to make movies which break all ten of them in a two hour span. And getting right down to it, can someone please tell me what is wrong with everybody being exposed to the Commandments? Is there something wrong with people hearing that they are breaking the laws of God by killing, stealing, lying, committing adultery and so on? We have turned from a nation with an indomitable pioneer spirit and a deep belief in God to a race of coddled panty waist whiners who let a handful of atheists, sleazeball lawyers and gutless politicians steal our very heritage and imperil our national soul. And I'm sick and tired of it.
