Selective Chastisement

Having been an Atlanta Braves fan for over three decades I really regret John Rocker’s recent remarks, but I'm sure I don’t regret them half as much as he does. The kid has found himself in a media whirlwind which shows no signs of letting up and will definitely have a detrimental effect on his career if not on the whole Braves organization. I certainly don’t condone what John Rocker said, but I can't help feeling sorry for him. You see, the very people who are raking him over the coals for his unfortunate remarks are the same people who almost ignored Jessie Jackson’s hymie town remark, who are more interested in praising Louis Farakhan’s million man march than in exposing the anti-semetic, racial side of him and his organization. They’re the same ones who follow Al Sharpeton around like a demented puppy dog hanging on his every word, when he has already been proven to be a liar and as racially motivated person as there is in America. This is the same bunch who glorified Jane Fonda’s trip to Hanoi but who have yet to mention a word about her accepting Jesus Christ. They berated Dan Quayle for a few trivial remarks, trying to make him look like an idiot while glorifying Al Gore who has made some of the most asinine statements ever uttered by a politician. It seems to me that their media has singled out the Christians to be their whipping boy. They make fun of a great man like Pat Robertson while turning a blind eye and a deaf ear to the escapades of a lying President and his corrupt administration. If you’re one of their darlings you can do no wrong, but if you’re not in the clique you’re fair game. Have you noticed that you haven’t seen much about Al Gore on TV lately? Could it be because most of the news is bad, i.e. the Buddhist temple fund raiser and lying about how much pot he smoked? They chastise George W. Bush for not wanting to talk about past drug usage while ignoring Al Gore’s. And what about Hillary Clinton? All the mess that she left behind in Arkansas. If that had been Barbara Bush or Nancy Reagan do you think they would have stood by and given them a free pass? No sir, Arkansas would have been crawling with investigative reporters licking their chops over every morsel of dirt they could dig up. Now that John Rocker has apologized do you think the press will let up on him? After all, when Bill Clinton apologized about the Monica Lewinsky affair they welcomed him with open arms, defending his ridiculous remarks about what it means. Well, I think John Rocker deserves to be forgiven too. He is a talented young man who has a great career in front of him, who made the mistake of trusting the press and made some remarks which offended all but the most bigoted among us. Should a few careless words put an end to such a promising career? Should he be drummed out of baseball while Jessie Jackson receives journalistic accolades and Al Sharpeton is walking the streets free to pull another anti-white scam? Is being anti-white not racism? If he is fortunate enough to be on the mound again John Rocker has to face the fans around the National Baseball League and that’s going to be punishment enough. I think the media should get off his back.

What do you think?
