America's Finest

As I begin this column I am sitting in Narita airport in Tokyo waiting for a flight to the good old USA. We left Seoul, Korea a few hours ago after completing a tour of military bases . We had a great time entertaining some of the finest armed forces in the world. Young men and women who have dedicated the cream of their youthful years to the defense and preservation of our way of life. We rode in Humvees, airplanes and blackhawk helicopters and stood at the Thirty-Eighth Parallel which is the jumping off place for democracy and where communism and all it’s attendant miseries and injustices begins. It’s just an imaginary line across the ground but it separates millions from freedom. The north Korean people are living in the evil clutches of the world’s most repressive communist regime, a totalitarian government which keeps them isolated from the free world, jamming radio and television signals and denying any semblance of a free press. It makes you so proud to be an American when you stand there looking over into communist north Korea, where the guards take positions, not to keep south Koreans out, but to keep the north Koreans in. In fact, the rank and file north Korean citizen is not allowed any where close to the demilitarized zone. There is no doubt in my mind that the communists would like nothing better than to sweep down through south Korea confiscating the rich farm land and the ultimate prize of Seoul. There is only one thing which prevents them from doing it. They know they would face the wrath of the United States of America and the Republic of Korea and that’s an awesome enemy. I wish every American could stand at the Thirty-Eighth Parallel and feel the hostility and understand that it’s one of the most volatile places on earth. It really makes you realize that it’s a shame what Bill Clinton has done to our military. We have been lulled to sleep with the demise of the Soviet Union and diplomatic relations with Red China. We have listened to the placating voices of lilly livered politicians telling us that all is well in our world and we don’t need a strong defense. Well all is not well in our world. There are numerous flash points which serious trouble could begin at the drop of a hat and as things stand now we do not have the armed forces to guarantee victory. This is a disgrace for America and we had better wake up to the fact that the decimation of our armed forces is most ill advised in the world we live in. It seems that as long as the economy is good that America is willing to go along with just about anything. Lying, cheating, debauchery and all the other things this administration has exposed us to. And that’s bad enough, but when politicians jeopardize the security of this nation for their own selfish political gain it’s down right treachery. Our men and women in uniform have always been there when we’ve needed them. Now they need us, will we be there for them?

What do you think?
