Thanksgiving

As we approach this Thanksgiving season I hope that we will remember what the day is all about. It isn’t just a day of too much turkey and football games, it’s a day which has been set aside to thank Almighty God for the blessings he has so abundantly given us. It’s easy to remember the material things, the financial windfall the new house, the better job. But I don’t think we stop to think that the things we consider mundane and ordinary also come from God. Every breath we breath is decreed by him, driving to work safely every day is a blessing, the health and safety of our children are blessings. If you’ve ever been to a third world country you realize that living in the greatest, most prosperous nation the world has ever known is a huge blessing. Every meal we partake of, every drink of water, every step we take, they are all blessings from our Heavenly Father. On this Thanksgiving Day I sincerely hope that all of us will pause in our activities and remember and be thankful for the blessings which have been so freely given to us. I have made an humble attempt at a bit of poetry containing some of the things I'm thankful for. I hope you enjoy it. Thank you Lord, I woke up again To a rising sun and a whispering wind To the gentle song of a turtle dove And a morning kiss from the one I love I thank you Lord for a good night’s sleep So restful, peaceful sound and deep I thank you Lord for a great career And the leaves that fall this time of year For the life renewing autumn rain And for the son who bears my name For the gentle gait of that sorrel horse And sunset view from the west side porch For that beat up hat that I love to wear And that little bay colt from my best brood mare I thank you Lord that I love my job And them rusted spurs with the jingle bobs I thank you Lord for this special week For big old moon and that little creek For a little dog of which I'm fond And them big old catfish in the pond I thank you Lord for that big blue sky And them fleecy clouds a floating by I thank you Lord for those two pine trees And that red tailed hawk floating on the breeze For that old black bull that’s got so much sense And that white tail deer that just jumped the fence I thank you Lord for the friends I've made For every note I've ever played For a trusty bus and a kickin' band For every show and every fan I thank you for my precious wife And a wonderful fulfilling life But I can’t begin to find the words No eye has seen no ear has heard The greatest phrase would only be A drop of water in the sea There is no way a mortal man Could write or speak or understand To thank you for your sacrifice Our precious saviour Jesus Christ.

Happy Thanksgiving
