Why Benghazi?

Why Benghazi?

Every day for well over a year I have tweeted about the slaughter of Ambassador Chris Stevens, U.S. Foreign Service Information Management Officer Sean Smith and two CIA security contractors and former Navy SEALs, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty, by Islamic fanatics in Benghazi, Libya.

Some people don't like my constant barraging of President Obama and then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for their blatant mishandling of the incident, the downright silliness of the anti Islam Video virtually nobody had seen, the refusal to even attempt to send in a rescue team and Obama's calloused retreat to his bed to rest up for a campaign trip to Las Vegas.

While Hillary and Barack did whatever they were doing that fateful evening, Ambassador Stevens was being tortured, raped, cattle prodded and beaten for seven hours by a bunch of animals that Hillary seems to think just happened to be out for a walk one night and “decided they’d go kill some Americans.”

The administration claims there were no assets in the area that could have arrived in time to rescue four trapped Americans, a dubious claim at best which is disputed by some experienced military people.

Actually that premise doesn't hold much water anyway because how could Obama/Clinton have known how long the siege would last?

Why weren't teams dispatched immediately upon finding out that the diplomatic compounds were under fire?

Why were the teams who were loaded up and ready to drive to Benghazi from the embassy in Tripoli told to stand down and return to the embassy?

Who gave the stand down order to the assets that had a chance of getting to Benghazi on time?

They say there was no stand down order, but there has to be a protocol for an event like Benghazi, protocols that would automatically go into effect. Who pulled them back?

And even if such protocols didn't exist the very act of doing absolutely nothing is certainly tantamount to a stand down order.

My detractors point out that several embassies were attacked and a lot of Americans killed under George W. Bush and other presidents, but this is the first time that a president totally ignored a desperate plea for help and a Secretary of State ever allowed an American ambassador to go into a hot spot with only one security man.

What makes Benghazi so different from all the others to me?

Simple, I think it was the day everyone serving in the military, foreign service, clandestine services and American business people operating abroad were betrayed. The code of "No man left behind" was dishonored and a Commander in Chief just threw his hands in the air, pronounced the situation impossible and went to bed.

It's the first time an administration tried to blame the death of people in service to this nation on some obscure video and stood over their coffins, in the presence of their families and proliferated the lie, knowing it was untrue.

Wouldn't a show of force, even one that arrived too late to save the Americans at least have shown that America will have a deadly response to any and all threats to the lives of our citizens wherever they are serving?

And what about catching the people who attacked the embassy? So far only one man has been taken into custody and it took over a year to catch him, even though he was doing media interviews like some kind of a celebrity.

So what makes Benghazi a special case to me is that a president and Secretary of State violated the trust of the people in their charge and sat on their hands while four Americans died horrible deaths, lied about the cause and refused to take responsibility for their actions.

Or, maybe I should say inactions.

What do you think?

Pray for our troops and the peace of Jerusalem

No weasley the soldiers would gladly have risked their lives to possibly save a citizen! Duh!!

Mr Alenhoutz, What I see is the same mystical spell that our corrupted leaders at all levels have piped to the masses, a deception instead of plain cold hard facts. I won't comment about "knowing the facts" because who are you going to trust, your liberal agenda boyfriends whole control the news and media who do not report the truth, but their perverted version of it, or verifiable facts that have been inconveniently overlooked in your zealous zest for the truth, as YOU see it. I saw the film on the extreme torture that was endured before the Ambassador died by the very evil people who were committing the atrocity and we stood by and did nothing! and that, Jack, is a fact!

I have spent 20 years in service to our country for us to state these opposing views, a freedom which is being taken away in this generation before our eyes. Oh, about them knowing the risk when they took an oath to serve, they were counting on the time old tradition of leaving no man behind as exemplified in the first Barbary war and immortalized in the Marine corp hymn, a sacred oath for all Americans. The war with Muslim terror began way back then, and we showed indomitable courage. We don't have that from our leaders anymore. “Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it.”
― Edmund Burke

Seems some us have forgotten our history...

Amen Amen & Amen Charlie, Obama is guilty as all git-out. No doubt the stand down order came from the sodomite himself. Left to the job they love to do, the military would have acted just like the 19 Granite Mountain Hot Shots of the Prescott Arizona Fire Department, who were not even dispatched last June, they died as hero's fighting for their neighbors. But the military did as it is supposed to, they obeyed the orders of their Commander In Chief. And for the fact that the Commander In Chief FAILED, we as a nation failed and have slipped to a new low, nuff said God Bless Plowboy

As noted above - a post with a stunning lack of facts. Love your music though.

I'm sure there was an aircraft carrier around somewhere that could have got a plane there in time.

As a retired Army Veteran I agree Charlie we never leave people behind. I believe this administration has FAILED the American service men and women and the American people. No one should be allowed to get away with this. Clinton should be forced to resign but alas no class in this administration. Remember this when next we vote for a President.

Spot on commentary. Now our enemies know two things about us.
#1.) We negotiate for hostages.
#2.) We may, or may not retaliate against direct aggression against our own people.
Both things will prove to be even more dangerous to us in the future.

What I see here is a rather stunning lack of facts. I would suggest you read the senate select report on Benghazi. Ambassador Stevens was not tortured or raped for seven hours. He died of smoke inhalation and was removed from the facility by friendly Libyans and taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. He refused American security in favor of locals who proved unreliable. There were no military assets that could have arrived in time to assist. NO stand down order was given. This same bipartisan senate report also confirmed that there as no political coverup. There have been multiple senate hearings, and something like 25000 pages of documents examined. This was indeed a tragedy and was most likely avoidable, but there are no deep dark secrets, no cover ups and nobody threw up their hands and went to bed. This is not the scandal many republicans wish it was. It is the risk our soldiers and diplomats take when they venture into harms way. Don't like the President? Fine. You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but before expressing it shouldn't you avail yourself of all of the available information? Public figures who command a following should be responsible. Posting fiction like this damages your credibility.

Love your music by the way. That won't change.

Absolutly Weasley795, because that's what we do.

As someone who would have gone that night, absolutely yes.

Charley hit the nail on the head and there were assets available to rescue the consular staff and if obamma ordered the marines from the embassy to stand down he should be taken to Benghazi and let him be beaten and raped by the criminal thugs that did this to the ambassador and the others so he can see what it is like and Hillary should join him.

" Wouldn't a show of force, even one that arrived too late to save the Americans at least have shown that America will have a deadly response to any and all threats to the lives of our citizens wherever they are serving?"

So you're saying that even if it doesn't accomplish anything tangible, more soldiers should go risk their lives just as a show of force?
