While many younger patriots might be unaware of who Charlie Daniels is . . . that is not the case for those who proudly serve our great country and fellow citizens in the military. For years this country music legend and his band have been entertaining the troops wherever their tour of duty might take them including Iraq and Afghanistan.

Charlie Daniels does so out of love and pride of country and endearing respect for our brave troops. Nor is it about self, which is a noble trait shared by other living and past celebrity patriots like Bob Hope, Wayne Newton, Ann-Margret, John Wayne, Gary Sinise, Fred Travalena, Lee Ann Womack, Chuck Norris, and others listed in Stars… There For The Troops.

You can easily see it in Charlie Daniels expressions and hear it in his voice when he talks about the troops. And it is so very evident in the associated DVD that comes with the purchase of The Charlie Daniels Band’s CD, Live From Iraq. In fact, watching the DVD stirred this father of a Marine veteran to write my poem, Patriot Charlie Daniels, which I was able to present a signed copy to Charlie before his concert in Houston, Texas on September 1, 2007.

What made my meeting Charlie Daniels especially memorable was being able to introduce him to my youngest son, who served in Iraq. And it was very touching to see the same respectful, caring look in Charlie’s eyes when he shook my son’s hand and hearing the same when he thanked him for serving. (My wife was also very happy to witness how Charlie reacted to meeting our son.)

Charlie is very personable and "listens" to what you are saying. It also reminded me how Wayne Newton responded when I met him in May 2007. (I suspect that might be a common quality of every great celebrity patriot.)

Then there is Charlie Daniels, the performer. He and his band are excellent musicians and really know how to entertain . . . You also witness his love of the USA and pride for our treasured troops.
